My buddy has imported the Japanese version this weekend. Although I can barely understand a word of it (ever heard Donald speak Japanese?), it's great. So far I've seen a few of the 'Character Summons' (Bambi, Dumbo, Mushu, Simba), the Tarzan area, Little Mermaid area, and Winnie the Pooh. Also saw the battle with Jafar and another with Captain Hook.

I love the transportation system - you collect 'Gummi' pieces and Chip and Dale construct different 'ships' to take you to different worlds. For example, to get to the Tarzan area, you build a Chocobo.

Graphicswise it's impressive - looks almost like living stuffed animals (especially the Pooh characters). The backgrounds aren't super detailed, but keep a nice flow with the whole Disney animated feel - example, Agrahba looks like it does in the animated series.

Most of the music is new stuff, but there are a few strains of some Disney music - the only super noticable one is 'Mickey Mouse Club March'. All of the voices for the 'Disney' characters (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy...) are the real voices - and most of the other character voices are either the real deal or the guys they get to do the computer games/animated series.

Right now I'm so looking forward to May (E3) when I get a chance to play the game in English :)

Uhm - it was announced like a year ago at E3.

And, they get it first becuase it's made in Japan, just like they have to wait to get stuff from America (well, legally anyway).

For those that want to know more about Kingdom Hearts, this link showed up in my mailbox this morning:

A nice little preview, with some good pictures, and surprising voice talent. Even though I still stand by my thought that this game was the result of Square losing a bet. (Alright, Mr. Eisner, I bet you $500 and a roleplaying game." "Full House" "Damn!") It's still going to rock:slurp:

To ken-oh-ki and a question

PINCH! Was it good for you!:hammer:

I completely agree... This game looks like it'll be awsome. Unfortunately, everything I read points to it being a PS2 game. Any info about a PC version or other game console? Planning on buying a PS2, but would prefer to use my PC.

I guess...

I dont know if or when it will show up on PC

I dont even think the second to last Final Fantasy (IX) has come out on PC yet and it has been at least 1- 1&1/2 years and another FF (X) game since then.

The voice talent sounds pretty cool!!! I like H. J. Osment(SP?), that kid from 7th Heaven, and the guy from Angel and Valentine... but I could do without Mr. Bass from that pop group I so very much dislike...

Just out of curiosity, where did you get that Lance Bass was going to be a voice? I couldn't find that in the article anywhere. I don't want a situation at any point where I'm in a serious situation, and suddenly my brain starts going,
It's tearing up my heart when I'm with you
And when we are apart I feel it too...

I would have to layeth the smack down like Yoda.

My guess is that Square wanted to get a younger audience and thought Disney could help them out. I can't wait to hear some samples of the voice talent, nonetheless PLAY it!!!!

Haley Joel Osment to lead all-star voice cast for Kingdom Hearts
Posted by: Leonard Teo, Thursday, 13 June 2002

Square and Disney Interactive today announced the all-star voice cast for Kingdom Hearts, the 3D action role-playing game for the PlayStation2. The player will assume the role of the lead character, Sora, voiced by Haley Joel Osment ("The Sixth Sense," "A.I. Artificial Intelligence"). Osment will lead an all-star voice cast, which includes David Gallagher ("Seventh Heaven") as Riku and Hayden Panettiere ("Ally McBeal," "Remember the Titans") as Kairi. Kingdom Hearts will also feature the voice talents of Sean Astin ("The Lord of the Rings," "Rudy"), Lance Bass (member of *NSYNC), David Boreanaz ("Angel," "Valentine"), Mandy Moore ("A Walk to Remember," "The Princess Diaries") and Christy Romano ("Even Stevens," "Kim Possible"). In addition, many of the original film star voice actors are reprising their role for this project.

Kingdom Hearts is the first project between Square and Disney Interactive, combining classic Disney characters and worlds with newly introduced characters and environments created in the renowned Square style. New Disney characters making their debut in Kingdom Hearts - Sora, Riku, Kairi and the Heartless - are designed by Square's Tetsuya Nomura, director and character designer of Kingdom Hearts, best known for his creations in the breakthrough titles Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and X.

Kingdom Hearts follows the story of 14-year old Sora, who, while searching for his friends Riku and Kairi, in a strange and mysterious land, meets Court Wizard Donald and Captain Goofy, protectors of the Disney Castle. Donald and Goofy are on a mission to find King Mickey. The three learn of ominous creatures known as the Heartless - beings without hearts derived from an unknown dimension and the perpetrators of the devastating storm. Upon discovering the link between the Heartless, the storm and the disappearance of King Mickey, Sora, Donald and Goofy join forces to recover Sora's friends, return the King to his rightful position and save the universe from the Heartless. Kingdom Hearts is an epic tale of adventure, heroism and, ultimately, the sacrifice of what is held dearest for the greater good.

For the first time, multiple Disney characters and worlds co-exist in one interactive product. More than 100 Disney characters appear in the game including Jafar and Aladdin from Disney's Aladdin, Clayton and Tarzan from Disney's Tarzan, Hades and Hercules from Hercules, The Queen of Hearts and Alice from Disney's Alice in Wonderland, Oogie Boogie and Jack Skellington from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and Simba from Disney's The Lion King. In addition, Final Fantasy characters, including Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, Squall from Final Fantasy VIII, Tidus and Wakka from Final Fantasy X along with others will make special guest appearances. There will also be new features added to Kingdom Hearts exclusively for the North American release that will bring additional challenges to the player, further enhancing gameplay.
