Considering that it is supposed to be a true remake of the 1933 version, which was only 104 minutes long, where did the extra 83 minutes come from ?

Mostly from non-stop action sequences. They're kinda long, but they kinda keep you interested and at the edge of your seat the whole time because they keep adding bigger things and keep adding on to the suspense. The T-Rex fight is a good example. It starts out as a major fight between 4 T-Rexes, then it it switches gears so that they're hanging from large vines while fighting, then finally, the finale where Kong finnishes off the last one. I swear, the eye candy and special effects kept you at the edge of your seat. It was great!

Besides what Imagineer Boy said, the original starts with Denham looking for an actress and finding Ann, while this one sets the mood for the audience, establishing what's going in 1933, what's going on with Denham and what's going on with Ann. The boat sequence is longer as well, trying to establish as many characters as possible so that their deaths will mean something to you later on.

I thought it was amazing I wasn't bored for a second. It was a lot better than the original remake as that was boring and a lot like the original film, without herbivoures eating humans. This time they trample them. Pretty funny after Kong killed the T-Rex he starts playing with its broken jaw. The natives were a lot nastier this time. I also like how they have some scenes from the original moive like the part they act on the boat when the sailor says something like "i don't like women on my boat" and the part in the theatre with the dancers dressed in monkey suits. 10/10.

I just got back from seeing it and I gotta say I was kinda disappointed. The acting was mediocre, the story was ho-hum and if I see another "slow-down-the-film-for-dramatic-effect" effect again in a film it will be way too soon. I thought Jack Black was too campy in his entire deliver and Adrien Brody just didn't seem to care. Scenes went too long with nothing happening, leaving me to think that entire film could have been an hour shorter and a lot better. I am really disappointed in Peter Jackson with this one. It had a lot of potential... but unfortunately Narnia is more of a Peter Jackson movie than this one.

1 1/2 Stars

Cut the time of the individual staring scenes in half, leave the film running at normal speed for the entire time and it would have been a much better film.

And what happened to Jimmy after that boat got smashed?

I couldnt agree more a lot of the movie could have been cut to make it mor enjoyable. Plus once they started seeing the dinosaurs i was expecting to hear "welcome to jurassic park". I would have prefered to find out were jack black got the map from in the first place than seeing a bunch of dinosoaurs running.
