Kindle?...or Nook???

I was lucky enough to play with both a Nook and Kindle before making my decision. Ultimately, I went with the Nook for a few reasons:

*faster page turns (this has gotten even better with new software releases)
*a tangible place to go for service/questions/trainings (with Amazon, you have a phone rep, at best)
*library books - it is extremely easy to download and read library books on your nook

I have an iPad for work, but the eye fatigue is pretty bad with extended use. I could never use it as an ereader, except for brief articles.

Also, my Nook unfortunately froze one day, and nothing would unfreeze it. It was 11:00pm on a Sunday, but I still tried calling BN. They were not only open, they knew from my email address when I had purchased the Nook, saw it was under warranty, and mailed me a new Nook - no questions asked. I was extremely impressed!

I have an English degree and still read quite a bit. I bought the Nook to clear my bookshelf, declutter, and put my library at my fingertips. I could not be happier with the device. Good luck, whichever you choose!

I have a Nook Color. I like it for the fact that it can do other things than just be a reader. My mother has a Kindle and I have used it also. For just reading I like the Kindle much better. Like other posters have said, it all depends on what you like and what you want to do with it and what you can afford.
