umm.. they look good, but I think the whole idea of a face Kim and Ron is a bit hokey. Personally, I feel they should have been fur. They are far too stylized in the cartoon to accurately be translated as face characters. They should have been fur.

I have to agree with you on this one. Both kim and ron are way to animated in the face to be face characters and unlike the princesses they have more of a cartoony feel to them. I saw them out in the parks today at Studios and to tell the truth I just dont know about them. I mean the show has been out since 2002 and just now they bring the characters out in the park.

I just feel that making them face would make about as much sense to me as a fur Mary Poppins or a face Mickey Mouse.

It doesn't make sense.

And the same problem applies to Fur - they are way to stylised to translate into fur properly without looking flat (The Way They Are Drawn, No Dimension) - The faces are the better option.

they would be a 3 dimensional version of their cartoons... exact copies, albeit with depth. As opposed to a person that may share some physical traits with the cartoon character

For those who keep asking why other Ron's had brown hair, the wigs weren't ready at the time. Besides, the other pics are just test runs in the parks, not official sets.

I dunno, mkt... I think I have to respectfully disagree with you!

The princesses only bear a passing resemblance to the characters they're portraying, and much of the similarity comes from wigs and costumes. It's pretty hard to make Kim and Ron look like characters, considering they're wearing "normal"ish clothes...

That being said, I'm all in favour of them being face and not fur characters since, well, they're humans. Mickey is, uh, a mouse. As a result, making them fur would be as ludicrous as having a fur Mary Poppins because humans aren't furry... (well, most of us aren't! ) Plus, this allows for a whole lot more interaction, which I think is cool!

And now that Ron's a blonde, they are starting to look fantastic! I would totally have recognized them in the parks! (not 'cause I watch Kim Possible as I get dressed to go to work in the morning at 7:00, no sirree :lookaroun )

Is the dyed blonde hair Ron we see in the pictures a few posts back part of a test too?? Or were they just testing if he would be recognizable with brown hair?

Point taken (see - it can be said in a WDWMagic thread!! ).

But at the same time, for those characters it just feels right for them to be fur (although I think that a face Gepetto would be really cool). For Kim and Ron, part of the allure of the show is its surreal-yet-real aspect, and I think that the "feel" translates better for them as face characters.

It's clearly a to-each-his/her-own thing, so I'm not expecting to convince you! Just thought I'd put in my two cents and explain why I think it's a good move. "No big!" ;)

face vs fur

I agree that the Kim Possible characters are stylized in their animation BUT I think that one thing that makes them a good face character is the believability of meeting the actual Kim and Ron. It's hard to explain this, but Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable are regular teenagers who have some pretty sweet adventures. They speak in slang, and say things like "no big," "so not" and "boo-yah" and the fact a child who watches their missions can actually talk to them about them and hear them speak the way they do makes the characters really come to life.

As far as Entertainment goes at Disney, I consider a face character to be what the character looks like, before it was animated. The felsh and blood Belle was drawn from who you meet in the parks. If it is believable that the Kim and Ron on TV are drawn from the actual people you meet in the parks, I think the characters are truly successful! I mean, how else do you explain a face character afterall.

I'm not going to even dive into fur, because I love the way fur characters communicate and animate with guests. I just think for Kim and Ron, the option for them to speak and seem like "regular" teenagers really works.

So that's my take on it... and whether you agree or not... it's so not the drama!

Reception to the characters has been very positive. Kim and Ron had a line for most sets, and even better than that were the comments of people passing. Everyone seemed so excited to see them, almost like they couldn't believe it. Even for a moment when Ron was out by himself, people knew who he was.

KP and Ron will be doing sets for this week only on the Streets Of America, then will return after the holidays.

I guess I'm also a bit dismayed by seeing someone that's in their 30's portraying the role of Ron. Just like seeing a 40 year old Jasmine, etc
