The safari trucks have bird guards on the bottom of the front bumper to keep from runnign over the small animals.

Nice factoid. It's true there is a little grate on the front which helps, but trust me, birds can still be run over (no personal experience, but fellow CMs have). What I think is a more interesting deterrent are the brushes on the long sides of the safari trucks. The zoologists told us that most species of birds won't cross an open space(e.g. a road) without being able to see their destination, thus by blocking their view they are less likely to run under the trucks.

Loved the discussion about the governors and yes all the info about the pucks is true although once you get 2nd gear available, you still have to activate it. I was rather proud of myself being able to consistently pull of 13 or 14 mph in the poacher chase :-)

One final piece of trivia, someone at DAK is a Who fan because every morning the trucks are tested to make sure they can "see" the pucks and the test puck triggers a short clip of The Who's Magic Bus :sohappy:

"Killimanjaro 12 , Safari 26"
"Go ahead 26"
"I did not get "magic bus leaving the vm lot"
"Do a full reset and circle back around and let me know"

:ROFLOL: love it -- it haunts my dreams

Sometimes you had to wonder if K12 was really listening to you..

"Kilimanjaro 12, Safari 26"
"Go ahead 26"
"yeah, I just unloaded and and there is a HUGE grinding noise coming from the truck when I turn right"
"Do a full reset and let me know if that fixes the problem"
"Fixes the grinding noise? I am pretty sure there is something wrong, there is a weird smell coming from the front of the truck"
"Ok do a full reset and let me know"

at departure 2... K12 waiting for me...
"Did that fix the problem?"
"Do you smell that? The burning smell?"
"Yeah... pull off at Ituri and head back to vm lot"

*thinking to myself... "thanks genius, hopefully I wont catch fire on the way back!"

Doing a full reset DOES NOT fix every problem!!!

The ostrich eggs near the White Rhino area are concrete. :lookaroun
and probably one of the most photographed things on safari!!

actually had a guest tell his son those were rhino eggs!! (white rhinos always around...) I told him actually, they are ostrich eggs to which he asks me "how can you tell?" my response... "rhino eggs are MUCH larger"

whole truck roars with laughter...

^ :ROFLOL:

Why, though, are they the most photographed? Guess no one ever saw huge eggs before?

It is a mystery that no-one has solved but it is indeed true. Seems like everyone needs a picture of some white things laying on the ground!

Factoid: The first Baobob tree as you enter the savanah has a cctv camera mounted in it for Animal Programs to watch over the area

I think guests are just excited that there's something close up and not moving so they can actually get a clear picture :ROFLOL:

Are we adding more KS trivia? Well then, all the Baobob trees on the safari are real "Disney trees" :animwink:

the only real real one is outside Tusker House...

Here is a good one... The rocks beside the ride path the show "so and so" villiage 8.5 miles that way are actually were you should be in your show time at that spot ( 8 minutes, 30 seconds )

and the "acacia trees" are actually scalped fl scrub oak trees...

Along the lines of the ostrich eggs, i've always wondered why, with all the animals around, people are consistently enamored with the ducks! i also love that the same people who fervently believe the ostrich eggs are real believe the american crocodile in dinoland is fake. watch a bird fly in there and see how fake it really is!

The ostrich eggs are real.

They have been drained though.

That is very interesting. It is awesome to know these things that make such an advanced attraction possible to operate. That would be a very fun attraction to work. I some time wonder about some of the drivers, they drive crazy but it is so fun!
