Kilimanjaro Safaris

I've always thought it had something to do with the buttons next to the steering wheel.
Or the wires across the road on the bridge, when you run over them, the rocking bridge gets activated.
Or the little hidden boxes. :)

Sorry Guys I would have answered sooner but you know we had a little hurricane or something LOL

The safari canned audio (Wilson) is triggered by pucks in the pavement.(Like the Parades at MK) The lights you see on the dash are nonfunctional. They were supposed to be part of the audio system but they never worked properly. The pucks also track where each truck is so that we know which truck is where. So then breaks can be given out when a cast member gets to the unload area.

Hope that covers it.

Actually the Vehicle Tracking is for locating the trucks when they have a breakdown, not for giving cast members breaks.

Na they use it for tracking which Trucks are where and yes, if a truck stops or breaks down or is put into reverse it the system shows it. I should know I do work there.

Good. My friends also know because they repair the trucks when the trucks breakdown and also do the maintenance on them.

Haha awesome Erik!! Yeah, working Kilimanjaro Safaris is pretty complicated with the pucks, computer systems, radio codes, animal and guest safety and other things. And this summer was definitely crazy there!!

Yen Sid, just to let you know, the computers are not only for when the trucks break down like you and Erik said, but there is also a computer database in the "ranger station" that helps to give out breaks for cms, as well as how the trucks are and what they are up to. Now I only wish they could get a better computer systems/ ac units to help with battling the summer heat  , haha

Actually, the Ranger Station is across the road next to unload. THe driver breakroom/ops room is where the computers and tracking station are.

Just saw this thread and wondered if you took your trip yet, or if it's coming up.

I was a Safari Driver...

Hey, I was a Safari Driver a couple years back so I think I can help. The audio is triggered through something we called "pucks" that are in key areas on the ground of the safari and the signal is picked up by the trucks. So everytime you hear Warden Wilson, you just passed over one. Hope that helps. And no offense to anyone, but Warden Wilson tends to get a wee bit annoying after about 20 go-rounds with him everyday, sorry but I needed to get that off my chest.

Jake, that is TOTALLY true! Haha, I felt the same way when I was down there. It's wierd to think it's been over a year since I started there and 8 months since I left  I miss it

yah he's under a year old I think he's out on the safaris trial alot just after the red clay pit. They also have a baby hippo, but he's under water alot of the time.

In September they had TWO playing with each other, it was really great to see.
