i used to think the driver controlled them, but one time he was talking to us and the audio stuff started talking over him so i actually dont kno. along the way the trucks go over sensors and things so control knows where all the trucks are, but i really dont kno about the audio and would really like to kno so, does anyone out there know????

im guessing that each truck has a unique radio singal that can be track by a computer then brodcast the track back to the truck. but is just a guess.

I think it's something similar to the PAL Mickey, where there are infra-red transmitters located along the 'road' and they trigger some on-board audio within each truck as it passes by that spot.

though this is probably HIGHLY improbable, what would happen if the pal mickey signals and the kilamanjaro signals got switched.

they are controlled by the sensors on the ground. Look at the dash area of each vehicle. there are three lights so the driver knows if they are too close to the vehicle in front of them. Red green and yellow.

I can just picture it, "Mommy, why is Mickey talking about poachers?"

I am not sure how it is triggered, but I noticed last week that it changes. If the real baby elephant is out it says he's spotted if he's not out, they say he hasn't been seen etc. It really makes me wonder if they have things to push instead of it being just automatic depending on what is out etc. We had a rhino in the way one day. However, we didn't have to wait long. We had a longer wait in the MK on the train. We stopped for a very long time because the chickens at toontown fair got out and were on the track. We had to wait while they rounded them back up and got them back in the barn. I found that hilarious.

i believe the inffared is the same kind of system used to send the audio to cars in rides like sse or to triger certain effects in rides like lwtl the ride passes the point and it trigers the thing to happen (ie chickens move donkey "speaks". but i think in the safaris its a button or some sort of que word b/c the animals are always in different places and it might be strange to hear the driver talking and suddenly hear in the middle of a sentance "simba 1..." lol. it would also be hard to make the sensors not suceseptable to the animals.

Yes, there are Red, Green and Yellow lights on the dashes of the jeeps. They do indeed tell the drivers what to do. However, unlike the Spectromagic Parade, they do not use ground sensors to track the vehicles, because they would need them every foot to keep accurate track of them. Radio signals are used (and possibly GPS due to the large tract of land).

As for the on-board audio, I'm not sure. You never see the driver triggering them, but you can be sure that they're not sent via radio waves, for they would risk losing some of them due to interference.

Also, Disney owns rights to hundreds of Radio Frequencies - they have plenty to keep Pal Mickey and Attractions on different frequencies, haha!

wait a sec they have a real baby elephant sometimes? , where do see the live babay at?

yah he's under a year old I think he's out on the safaris trial alot just after the red clay pit. They also have a baby hippo, but he's under water alot of the time.

I've got a couple of pictures of the baby elephant in my photo gallery.

There are two different systems. One is a Vehicle Tracking Program which is for the Red, Yellow, and Green lights to keep the distance between the vehicles. Also there is a map where they can track all the vehicles at once, so if a vehicle breaks down, they know where it is at.

The audio system is triggered by sensors in the ground, so you should hear the same audio in the same locations everytime.

So some sensors in the ground are location sensors and others are audio triggers.

Actually if you notice there are hidden little boxes that have little motion sensors on them, they are on the side of the path the trucks take. The sensors respond to other sensors on the trucks so the know where each truck is.

I know I was wrong I felt like putting that though. But actually they do what the floats do in the parades. There are little pucks imbeded in the concrete below the truck is a scanner that when a truck goes over the puck the trucks reads it and is sent back to the tracking system. Or something kinda like that
