Yes they have. I purchased a laptop for my 9 year old yesterday for Christmas. The sad thing is she will have a better computer than I am currently using.

My kids are soon to be 5 & 7 and they have no concept of expensive - they still conceptualize things in size - so when my daughter asked for an itouch and I said it was really expensive she just looked at me blankly and said, "no it's not - it's small".

Ugh. I don't currently have children, but when I do I refuse to over tech them until they're of age. I didn't have a personal cell phone til I was 16. And I paid for the plan. That's gonna be strict policy in my household as well.

Here's where things go awry for me -- not the iPhone/iPad/iTouch gizmo deal at all -- in fact, I now have almost all of my rehab patients in my clinic using one of the three...

BUT...I think I need to purchase some Apple stock...unlike that standard cellphone you might give your 11 year old to take out with them, throw around, lose, bang around, dent up, etc, the iPhone cracks easily - one swift bang against a counter and c-ra-ck...and the warranty does not cover damage you do to your phone. Plus, unscrupulous adults will have no problem stealing a kids iPhoneiTouch/iPad compared to that lime-green beater cellphone...

I say -- go ahead and buy 'em whatever they want....but wait for me to buy some stock first since they'll be paying for replacements soon...

All my DD wants for Christmas is an I-Pod Touch, an I-Pod Touch, an I-Pod Touch.

She is 9.5 yo and doesn't care about anything else.

I'll be getting in line tonite at our local Meijer for the one they have for their Thanksgiving day sale, hoping not to have to wait somewhere else for the Black Friday crowds.
