Talk about your all time admissions of guilt. I’d be pretty surprised to see Kennedy last much longer.

I think the only reason she renewed her contract again was because they didn't have a successor lined up yet. A succession plan is probably in place. I wouldn't be surprised if Feige is in the mix a long with a few others like Filoni,Favreau and maybe even JJ.

I absolutely love and hate this at the same time. As a huge fan of the MCU, I hate that this could pull him away from it (even if it's only for a time it still sucks). But as a lifelong Star Wars fan, this is a huge win imo. I can not freaking wait to see what he does in that universe. I shared the news with my 7th grade class today and a few of them lost their fool minds they were so excited. This truly is bittersweet news for me.

KK is really going over and beyond to try to compensate for her epic failures. This is a weak attempt.
This isn't Kennedy attempting anything in my opinion. This is Disney getting ready for the "we thank Kathleen for all she's done and wish her well in her future endeavors" announcement.
I think this is very much KK grooming her successor. They start by giving him one movie. see how he does.
I'd say it's Disney grooming him. Like @Sirwalterraleigh has said, if Disney could have gotten rid of her, they would have. Maybe now that the MCU has reached pinnacle heights, Feige might want a new challenge. So I would bet, Igers been in Kevins ear since the last jedi debacle, and now he's finally ready to move on from Marvel.

There were Hollywood writers saying that Iger offered the LFL post to Abrams and he declined...

I never understood why that was scoffed at? Everything made sense.

1. Awful last Jedi PR and - lest we forget - a severely declining box office
2. Solo bombed...absolutely ridiculous for a Star Wars on any level
3. Kennedy iced...didn’t see her for most of 2018.
4. Iger announces “step back”
5. The timeframe in question...
6. Really “tepid” announcement of contract extension. Which in Hollywood could allow a dismissal at any time.

So why didn’t people believe it? I think it’s simple: Disney and it’s fans do not understand Star Wars and they’ve begun to double down on Lucas prequel mistakes. Make movies people want!!!

But what’s happened since?
Bringing in big names to make movies...Iger kissing lucas’s Butt in public...Abrams in complete damage control.

Sometimes people need to believe what their eyes and gut tell them. Star Wars fans are usually right.

Haven’t seen Rise of Skywalker yet but I already have a feeling this will be the best Star Wars movie since Rogue One.
If Feige knocks it out the park with Star Wars, I'm assuming he'll be replacing Horn. Then he can make sure both Star Wars and Marvel are on track. Regardless I think this is great news. I wonder if he'll try to lure the Russo's to work on a Star Wars film at some point as all 3 of them are big fans.
Oh my freaking god I would DIE!!!!!

A nice announcement but I’m not sure about the long term goal here.

Feige loves Marvel and is great for the franchise so I dont understand why he would sidestep to Lucasfilm and take over Star Wars. What’s the incentive for him?

Same with replacing Alan Horne. I’m not sure if Kevin is interested enough to take over that role?

I’m not against it at all as come 2021, I imagine most of the big bosses to be leaving: Iger, Chapek, Kennedy and Horne

Star Wars needs rescuing. This is one HUGE misstep by Iger. Star Wars is almost completely ruined. I wish they would just start from scratch.

I have no knowledge of the three script outlines that George Lucas presented to Disney when they bought Lucasfilm. I know nothing about them.

And yet I feel safe in saying that I would prefer them to retcon away the current trilogy and start over with Lucas' outlines. Now, please do not let him anywhere near the director's chair. Please. But I can't imagine that his stories would not be more satisfactory than what we have gotten.

This. He's a story and idea and a vision guy, and his stories seem to do best when he's not the one directing them or writing the actual screenplay.

I guess some people still don’t believe they didn’t try to replace her in the summer of 2018??

There’s really no reason to doubt it now.

And iger’s inclusion of the Lucas story in his book and the release is “curious” to say the least. Sure seems like OT fan **** kidding doesn’t it??

There are no “coincidences” in Disney
She’s been lame duck for two years.

They gave her a “contract extension” that could mean absolutely nothing in Hollywood. The money doesn’t matter...and she could be pushed out of it at anytime. That’s Hollywood. People make and breaks their contracts at any time.

Her primary “security” at this point is she’s speilbergs lackey and he’s kinda a free agent...I’m sure they want to keep him on their good side.

Let’s look at this with the big boy pants, please?:
The brought in Dan and Dave (not looking as great now) to shove Kathy’s little boy toy out the door...and now they are bringing Feige and favreau in to try for damage control after the “death of the skywalkers”...

Let’s just call it a spade??

KK's contract was extended at the time you think she was being sideline. A Hollywood journalist has someone on record that KK is still in charge.

Your hatred is leading you to believe in some pretty ridiculous conspiracy theories.

Hey...I’m wrong a lot...but not 100% of the time.

So you believe “a Hollywood journalist” over other “Hollywood writers”? Could be.

But I ask: what about the events since December 17th 2017 lend more credence to your belief than mine?

Honestly. We should do the timeline

Sorry, I'm with @Sirwalterraleigh on this one. There were plenty of reports that JJ was offered the job along with others. No one really knows what happened, but the evidence sure seems to be Iger wanted Kennedy out in my opinion, and no one wanted the job so they extended her. This whole Feige announcement sure seems to be furthering that narrative as well.

I think the problem with this concept is the “contract extension”

Thinking that actually means something. First, if they have no replacement it’s entirely warranted for stability as they re-evaluated the operation.

Second, they could can her at any moment and pay and not blink.

Third, after the solo flop and the Johnson backlash...they could have set any terms they want.

“Hey, Kath...here’s a seven figure base salary plus percentages...but the deal is we reserve the right to accept your “voluntary step down” at any time of our choosing.

What say you?”

It’s HOLLYWOOD...land of agents and backroom deals.

First I've heard of that, and I generally read the trades.
The trades?

Is that where the “shes clearly in power” comes from?

All evidence points to the contrary...favreau, Weiss and benihoff and now Feige all brought in?

“Still in development” Johnson out there while Game Of Lightsabers was announced as the next movies?

Guess I need to read the trades with their interesting way of reading the tea leaves?
