With all the discussion about the new rfid wristbands I was wondering if anyone knows for us traditionalist like my family and myself can we just keep and use our old annual pass paper tickets or are we going to be forced to switch to the wristbands! We just have such a tradition of myself and my kids all waiting for my wife to handout our passes at whichever park we arrive at and calling us out by name like here is goofies pass heres minnies pass we would just hate to lose that tradition!

I don't know what is coming in the future, but they have been letting people use old tickets so far. I still have old, plastic tickets and kept that. They ran it through a scanner because all the turnstiles had already turned into tapstiles. :)

Since you will be able personalize the bands with characters and what not, you could keep the tradition and just pass out the wristbands instead of the tickets.

They are asking that all passholders convert from paper to plastic. They are getting rid of the old turnstiles. As for the wristband, I wouldn't worry about that yet. I still have my old passes from the 80s with my picture on it. They make great momentos.

I have yet to transfer our paper AP's to plastic, but a CM mentions it whenever we enter a park. We keep forgetting to take ID's, so they have not been able to switch them for us. They do, however, give us the distinct impression that they want us to switch to plastic.

There will be a point where you will have to switch to an RFID ticket just like they did many years ago when the switched from stamped tickets to a magnetic stripe. I can all but guarantee that you will have to switch to RFID when you renew.

And from what I gathered, you will always be able to use a plastic card as an alternative to the wrist band due to some religions and such not allowing it (or I guess people who don't have arms?)

For now, yes. Some parks don't have turnstiles that they let you enter through, so they use a scanner.

In the future, probably not. And if you want certain features, you'll for sure need to upgrade it from what I'm hearing.
