Kali River Rapids

Hi:wave: I have a question about Kali River Rapids about whether or not this ride will get you completely soaked at the bottom of the 30(?) ft drop, because my family isn't too keen on getting soaked. Is the ride worth going on cuz I've heard it's only 4 and a half minutes long. Is the drop actually thrilling and does it compare to Grizzly River Run cuz we've been on that and thought it was fairly good (but lacking in theming). Thanks a lot for your help!:)

GRR is FAR superior to Kali... if you've done GRR don't even bother with Kali.. trust me!!

And getting soaked all depends on where you happen to be... sometimes you can leave those rides bone dry and sometimes you're soaked to the skin...

In the nutshell, some times you get soaked, sometimes you don't. A poncho MAY help but a good gush of water will soak everything not covered like your shoes. On the drop, whichever side hits bottom first gets soaked. It spins down the drop so you can't predict it. I always take off my shoes (even though they say not to) because I have foot problems and nothing is worse to me than walking in squishy shoes.

How's the ride regarding length and the drop? So basically, it's like this?

Kali River Rapids

Pros: 1. Better theming
2. Bigger drop?
3. Gets you more wet.
4. Better ride show(burning rainforest)

Cons: 1. Shorter
2. Only 1 drop

Hmm...by looking at this, I would say that even though Kali is a bit shorter and only has 1 drop, it has a better ride experience.

If you do get wet, your usually soaked...

It's fairly short, yes, but it's still a quality ride. The drop is nowhere near what you can build it up to be, but it's still enjoyable.

Isn't the drop 30 ft tall cuz the lift is 33 ft high?( I think that's fairly tall for a water ride) And by fairly short, do you mean about 4 1/2 minutes cuz that's what I read on the ride description which is pretty long for an E-Ticket.

For some reason, I am like O for 10 on Kali. I got soaked every time. I found some turbo charged hand dryers in one of the rest rooms that help in the drying process. What is Grizzly River Run?? :lookaroun

We rode Kali this summer, for the first time.
1.) We Got SOAKED!
2.) The ride was really short IMHO. At the end I was kind of like...it was almost a waste to get that soaked for a that short and a tame water ride.
The theming is great, I too liked the rainforest part, but it is over pretty quickly. Eventhough I liked the theming it will be on my skip list for next time.

rapids tip!

the most important thing to do is put your shoes and socks in the middle of the raft in that storage thing. The rest of you will dry, but your feet will be soggy all day otherwise.

also, how wet you get all depends on the spinning of the raft. so theres no way to prevent yourself from getting soaked other than to risk it. A couple times the wave destroyed the person next to me, while i was completely dry. best of luck and happy rafting!

I found this to be one of Disney's worst efforts. The "drop" is not thrilling at all. And everyone keeps mentioning the "themeing" of this ride. What is the theme? The jungle's on fire. Look there are some propane fueled fires in some fake looking logs. Oooh. Aaah. And what about all those animals and cool audioannimatronics. Oh yeah, there are none. This ride really is terrible. If you want to see an Asian rain forest, ride the Jungle Cruise. If you want to ride a raft ride, get on the lazy river at Typhoon Lagoon. If you want a good all around boat ride with some great drops, get on Splash Mountain.

You will get wet on this ride. If someone has been on Kali and not gotten wet (without a poncho) please let me know what lays of physics you defied to do so.

I avoid Kali like the plague, except on the hottest of days when I'm with my kids....

I don't agree that the themeing is better than Grizzly Run...I find quite the opposite. I also rarely do Grizzly as you have multiple opportunities to get very wet as well, but it's prettier, has fun movement and the geiser field is great fun.

Kali River Rapids vs. Grizzly River Run
They are both extremely well themed river adventures. I have to give the edge to GRR in terms of overall ride experience, but to Kali in terms of theming. GRR seems a bit longer and the larger lift hill and two drops add to the experience. Kali on the other hand gets you much wetter (which may or may not be a good thing). The "jungle" that Kali goes through is visually interesting and great. One other advantage GRR has is Free lockers near by to store your items in.

Kali's one drop is pretty big for a rapids ride. According to sources, it has a 30 ft drop which is bigger than GRR's drop.

What a great ride! I’d heard so many reviews of how short it was, which was true, but it didn’t matter at all because the theming and landscape were excellent. We loved the simulated fire area as well as the drop and eventually ruled that this was more fun than Grizzly River Rapids at DCA, even though Grizzly does have two drops instead of Kali’s one. We also loved that the Kali drop didn’t have the spinning feature built in like it does on Grizzly, because that always makes us dizzy and I wish they’d cut it. We got wet, but not soaked, so what did we do? Ride again without getting out. Yep, the CMs hadn’t noticed early enough that we were in a handicapped raft and I commented, “Of course, you could just let us go again”, and we did. Got much more soaked this time, damnit. But our spirits weren’t dampened, only our Hawaiian print shirts, so we left happy and energized. I forgot to mention what a beautiful queue line this ride has too – wow!

There seems to be mixed reviews for this ride but everybody says it's short. GRR is only 6 minutes long so how short can this be?

The 4 1/2 minutes includes the long time it takes to go up the lift. As a result, the actual time spent in the rapids seems very, very short. It also only has one major drop, few rapids, and few geysers. The end of the drop can be a bit of a doozie, expecially if you're the poor, unfortunate soul at the lowest point of the raft at the end of the drop. It takes a while to dry off after that, even in the Florida sun (coming from personal experience, here). Overall, though, I do sorta like the ride. It's certainly not on my top 10 list, but I wouldn't mind going on it again if the wait isn't too bad, and I have a poncho with me. That being said, I haven't been on Grizzly River Run at all.

OMG, I never got drenched on GRR! Is the drop bigger or something cuz when going down the 22ft drop on GRR, I barely got wet even though I was going down backwards. GRR's rapids were not that strong IMO, and it seemed we were just travelling down a calm river. Kali's rapids seem much more intense in the ride videos and pictures.

P.S The actual ride time for GRR is actually less than 6 minutes cuz it goes up a 45 ft lift hill to the top of the mountain.

The original plan was to have alot of small drops. My opinion is that the change to one big drop was a bad idea. If you don't mind being wet and the line isn't too long, then going to see the theming is probably worthwhile.

Is the 30 ft drop thrilling at all or is it just a gentle slope down? And how long do you think the ride actually is after the lift hill?
