I remember reading it would be ran with some water features eliminated. What does that mean exactly? Do you still get the opportunity to get pretty wet on the ride?

Well.... I never get wet on that ride in general... even Pre-covid. Went on it like 2 weeks ago nothing felt different lol.

I went on it a few times in July after the reopening. They turned off the abilities to get wet from the squirters that people operate from the bridge. Also, there are no additional water features on. I did get somewhat wet, but not as much as I have in the past. I still used the lockers just in case.

It's always been that if you go down the drop backwards, you'll get soaked. If you don't, you'll be almost completely dry. There are a handful of water effects that have always worked intermittently but none of them get you very wet at all.
So true! The few times we've actually decided to ride this has been the case. The first time I took my then 3-yo son on it, we managed to be the only ones soaked in the entire raft. DS was not amused and ended up most miserable!

I don't mind water rides and getting wet--however, I do not like getting shoes/socks wet...awful! Wet undies are no fun either 😂

I watched a video yesterday that showed the waterfalls that the raft goes under are now currently shut off to help keep masks dry. The poster got a little wet, but nothing like under normal operations.

This is an attraction we normally don't do, but with the lighter crowds we just might this time. Same for several things in each of the parks with no shows going on. It's a chance to do some things we haven't done for several trips now so we're looking at that as a plus.

A Slip-n-Slide offers better thrills. A Carwash, more entertainment value. Kali is nothing more than a slightly energetic "lazy river". It's a sorry excuse of a rapids ride and the very worst example of the "Disney difference" thanks to it's diminished effects, lack of theming and missing plot. Kali needs a massive overhaul! It's about as entertaining as shower! Only you don't get as wet.

The tears I shed for this attraction offer more soakage! Such wasted potential. I'd happily praise TDO if Kali ceased operation and shutdown for a major overhaul.

Hyperbole aside, Kali really is a very lame rapids ride. I can only imagine how terrible it must be with it's water spray effects turned off.

Kali River Rapids is such as weirdly-designed attraction. It's one thing to get a spray of water (e.g., Splash Mountain), but it's another thing to get water dumped on you, ruining your shoes and socks for the whole day. Why can't they make slight modifications to the drop, so that riders get wet, but short of a tidal wave?

That’s not the point of a rapids ride. If you think Kali is bad, go ride Popeye.

Ive ridden the Kali multiple times. Depending on the time of year its been fun to get the water to come up and get you soaked, other times I'm not looking forward to getting wet but I like to gamble on the odds. I'd say the majority of my rides Ive been in the one spot on the raft that gets the water dump. I would be passing the attraction by if I knew the water affects were altered. Wheres the thrill in that? As a water ride it certainly should have been made with more of a thrill, but now with even less... I'll pass.

Popeye is actually fun, though. There are real thrills: tall rapids, tight turns, etc. Getting soaked by the different features on Popeye works as part of that holistic experience. Kali just gets one or two people soaked by a tidal wave at the bottom of a small drop, while everybody else stays dry, and there's never any excitement.

Also, rapids rides can still be great without getting you absolutely soaked. Grizzly River Run at DCA apparently has two settings: one that gets riders more wet (when it's hot out), and one that gives riders splashes without getting them totally soaked (when it's cooler out). The ride is a ton of fun on either setting: with two drops, big rapids, tight corners, caves, various pieces of scenery and minor special effects, etc. GRR is what a Disney rapids ride can be, and it doesn't require a tidal wave...

LOVE GRR! Such a great ride! Although we definitely gave it a pass when we were there last Jan. when it was in the 30s! Couldn't believe it was running! I was desperately trying to find a beanie for my head (luckily had gloves with me and brought a down jacket with me from home and still was freezing)!

Rode Popeye once and was so soaked I might as well have jumped in the pool with clothes and shoes on! It was great on a hot day but horrible to walk around in wet clothes the rest of the day--never dried off and felt miserable! would do it if I had clothes and shoes to change into but we've always passed by after that one ride!

My 4 year old loves Kali and at the end of animal kingdom nights we traditionally go on over and over and over until the park closes for like the last hour. He loves seeing which one of our group gets wet and we all get into it betting on who we think will get the splashes etc. hoping he would still get that fun this trip
