Kali extended to Everest?

I heard, from an unproven source, that the reason Kali is so short is that when built it was supposed to have been a part of an eventual Matterhorn type attraction. But because of budgeting they only put in an appreviated rapids ride with the intentions of extending the ride with another lift hill to incorporate the mountain scenery and theming. This is the reson the ride seems shorter than normal to many people. Does anyone know if they will reroute and extend Kali as planned in the original version???:veryconfu  :veryconfu

1) Why spend money opening a ride just to have to spend more money extending the ride later? Money could have been saved making the long version first.

2) It's too convenient that Kali, which is old now, was supposed to be part of an attraction that has just recently come along.

Hmmmm... This is completely new to me (Not that I've heard EVERY rumor, but still...) And, honestly, I've never been on Kali and thought "Gee, this ride seems....short". Is this something other people have experienced?

I'd also have to agree with the others that think this sounds a little odd - why spend the money and time building a ride half-way, and then have to go back and spend MORE money, and MORE time, changing it to accomodate a ride that was likely still in the "blue sky" stage when Kali opened?

I hate to be "that guy", but I'll believe it when they break ground :animwink:

I believe that they explain the change in Kali's design on either the Travel Channel Imagineers show or AK show.

Either way, if I remember correctly, the ride was shortened because the older version wasn't as exciting. The previous version was significantly longer, but had the same change in elevation as the current design. Also, the current drop was split into two or three separate drops.

Yep. Did it twice yesterday. First time, everyone in my boat said something. Of course no one really got wet.

2nd time, I got drenched along with one other guy. Everybody else complained that the ride was too short, no point, and not enough drops.

to me Kali was a huge letdown. also, when i went on it, maybe 2001 or 2000, i was completely soaked to the bone. is it different now?

Grizzly River Run at DCA is pretty darn good, and that's coming from someone who isn't "too thrilled" by raft rides.

While it would be really cool to intergrate Kali into Everest, I'd be shocked if they spent the $$$$ to undetake such a task. The entire ride would have to be changed to make sure the water flows correctly into each exisitng section and probably call for a complete redesign (unless they have some brilliant foresight and envisionsed this)

Even if the pipe dream occurs, they wouldn't do this until Everest is open. AK needs all the attractions it can have running at the time.

I sincerely hope that the "supposed" raft ride in Canada is more of a "boat ride" with minor splashing (kinda like a long Maelstrom). I don't see people wanting to get soaked in World Showcase.

If so, expect the smell of those breadsticks in Le Cellier to be gone by mildew-ey toursits :hurl:

I went on it in Nov of 2000 and go sooooo wet, I had to go back to the hotel (over by Sea World) to get changed!!

Went on it last May but came prepared - wore a bathing suit and yelled (not really - more like made fun of) some German guests who put on all the protective rain gear to keep from getting soaked.

It did not disappoint, I got completely soaked and so did everyone except the German folks (looking back on it, they were pretty smart!) which felt good on a 90°F/34°C day. While it is very wet (and I love the smell of the cork over where the trees are being burned before the drop) it is too short. But I think getting wet and walking around hot, humid Florida in summertime with all the chaffing and things isn't fun either (think how Colby was walking around on Survivor All-Stars and you'll catch my drift).

Word of warning - do not go on Kali and then head to "It's Tough to be a Bug". You will be freezing by the end of the show because of the wind effects blowing over your wet clothing.

Busch Gardens - Tampa Bay has TWO water/raft type rides that are better than Kali -- although they aren't nearly themed as well, but that's to be expected. BIG splashes though... just plain crazy!

I recently went on Congo at Busch Gardens and I am sorry to say but Kali is MUCH better than even that ride and I loved it before!! But compared to Popeye at IOA Kali is really tame...
