Was thinking the other day, as I went on my dailey relaxing walk about just WHAT IS IT that brings me( family) back to DisneyWorld every single year.
There are SO MANY other destinations we have never been to that I know my wife at least would love to go to as would I ( Vegas,Europe, cruises, non disney etc) yet we go back to Disney EVERY YEAR! There have been years that money was tighter than others for various reasons, inluding kids college etc..BUT yet we ALWAYS find a way to " Go to Disney"... Sometimes my wife will comment that she would love to someday go to Italy or France and I always tongue and cheeck counter "why You when you can go to Italy, France, Germany,Mexico right in Disney!..What is it? What is the ADDICTION? What is the hold that Disneyworld has on us all that sometimes drives us to thinking Disney 24/7(lol)?
I would like to hear your thoughts on this "MAGICAL" Matter

its many things, but what i think it is the most is the consistency of happiness that we relate to over our lifetime. what i mean is that we connect to the big picture that is the parks, and we also connect to the little details within, and those connections create a trust and bond within us that we can rely on over the years. despite changes the park itself and its mission will never change, and in an ever-changing world we know there is one place we can go that will always be there. a place build on happiness and dreams that was only made with the intent to bring joy. Who wouldnt want to be a part of that?

thank God for walt and his idea.:)

I think for the most part it is overall consistency. Those who like Disney go back because they know for the most part, that in the overall big picture, they are going to have a good time. I also think that, for the most part, it is a safe place for families to go. Example, you go to Disney, you don't see the riff raff handing out business cards for prostitutes on every street corner like you do in Vegas. There are no surprises like that when you go to Disney. Yes, you may have a bad experience with a CM or an attraction may be down, but in the big picture, you have a good time, enjoy yourself, in a family safe environment.

Love riding Horizons; it's my favorite! :brick::brick::brick:

But seriously, there are too many things to list as to why.

I agree with the consistency. I know I will always enjoy great food, shows, rides, etc. But at the same time, I know I will have a different experience every time too. Being familiar with Disney also let's us customize each trip based on what we want. We don't currently have kids, but we are trying, so another thing that will keep us going back is getting to experience everything again through their eyes.

WDW has just got that "thing" you know. I'm tired of saying magic and/or pixie dust so I'll just call it that "thing".

Also, WDW just offers so much variety in terms of stuff to do that I feel like I'm making the most out of my vacation. I'm not the "sit at the beach and roast all day" type of guy. Boring.

I know that at Disney we will have that consistently great experience while seeing and doing something different each visit.

For me, it's getting to hang out with Meg Crofton all day when she's wearing her Capri pants. There's just a Laura Petrie quality about her.

I agree that its the consistency, but theres another factor for us:

Each year we say "we should go France, or Hawaii, or Sandals"... etc. Then, I look up the price and the cost is easily double what we spend when we go to WDW. The possibility that I might spend double the money and have a stressful or less-fun trip, makes that 'other' trip less appealing.

I can relate to that. My wife and I looked into going to Hawaii just the two of us. After the activities, food, travel to get there, and hotel it would have cost us about 5 grand. That's not even including souvenirs during our time at Hawaii.

Yet if we (my wife and daughter plus me) go to WDW and stay at the french quarter or riverside and throw everything in like Hawaii and it still only cost about 4k. That's even adding another person unlike Hawaii so I understand how WDW would win easily over places like Hawaii in cost alone.

Don't get me wrong I think everyone should try and do Hawaii at least once. I'm trying to get a date set for Hawaii next year with my wife and I along with a small trip to WDW for my daughter if it's possible. But I do see how WDW is an easier trip to make.

For me - it's the complete vacation package.

You can relax, you can run around, eat delicious meals and yummy snacks.
You are completely immersed in vacation. There is no wal mart, no work, no cooking, cleaning (for me anyway - we don't rent a car or eat off property at all). It's just perfect. And you know everything will be clean and the people will be nice - you KNOW you'll have a good time.

And after you've been there - you can't wait to experience those rides again that you can ONLY ride in Disney. It's just amazing

For our family - it's mostly just because we have our timeshare there...

Kidding! We can actually exchange it wherever we want, yet we always choose Disney. I'm not exactly sure what draws the rest of my traveling companions back (sister and mama) but for me, it's all the memories I've made there as a child... I know everytime we go, it will be great! There's SO MUCH to do... You can visit foreign countries, go on a 2 week safari and climb Mt. Everest, hang out with 999 happy haunts, fireworks, parades, shows, food.... Everything is there. I always say I'd love to visit other places like Europe or Vegas... And I have been to both places once and neither of them takes the spot at top vacation. I'm a go go go person... Lying on a beach sounds boring to me... I love to have stuff to do and see, all the time, and Disney definitely packs a punch in that department :)

Other than the happiness and the other issues covered in this thread, I would say the fact that there is NOTHING quite like it anywhere else in the world.

THIS is exactly how I feel! I say it all the time. You are just away from the real world. You do not have to do anything.. and everyday is just a day to have fun and enjoy your family. We park our car when we get there and do not get in it again till we leave. I have no chores and do not have to clean.. I am on Disney property and as soon as I get there all the bad things going on around me seem to go away for the time I am there

Because there's no greater pleasure than to come home after a 2 week vacation and complain about all the chipped paint inside the parks? :king: Seriously though, for me constantly revisiting Disney parks worldwide (not just WDW) is just because I truly am addicted. My first word was Mickey so it's obvious that since a very young age I've been suffering from this addiction! Disney parks satisfy my craving, like a legal drug per se for all things Disney.

Something like this. :)

What brings us back are the memories and shared experiences. We always have some great story to tell after each trip. There are so many inside jokes in our family which come from our Disney trips.
