Question for those who have seen it.

I wanted to take the boys to see it today before we leave for DIsney. I know it's PG-13 and I am just now allowing them to see some PG-13 movies...the boys are almost 11 and 12.

What do you think?

I think your boys will be fine with it. There is absolutley no "improper moments" between men and women (hint: its a 3 letter word that starts with an s ;) ) beyond a kiss and pirates chasing women. There is also no nudity or profanity (Bloom does say one "bad" word, but it is pretty covered up by the other sounds during that part of the movie). The PG-13 is purely for violence including, but not limited to, sword fights, a pirate slitting a throat (no blood here though), close range gun shots (some killing people), cannon balls exploding into "civilian areas", stabbing and mild blood including blood on a knife and blood that oozes from a gun shot wound. Also, there is an amazing ending where the pirates are revealed as walking skeletons in the climatic battle. They are somewhat scary for a younger audience, but I think boys 11 and 12 could handle it. I hope that helps with your decision. It really is a superb movie.

Yes it really does. I have just started being lenient with movies we see. The only non G or PG movie I have let them see was XXX. (Purely because I have a Vin DIesel fascination.) So PotC sounds like it will be perfectly fine and right up their alley. We'll see it today and then ride the ride on Sunday.

By the way...sorry....Thanks to you for the great rundown of what I should be aware of. I truly appreciate it.

I saw the movie last night at Pleasure Island, one of the two largest theatres, with a full house. Most of the crowd seemed to be fans of the ride, the rest being fans of Orlando Bloom.:animwink:

The movie itself was excellent. It had "Action for the guys, a happy love story for the ladies, and comedy for everybody else." The plot really didn't seem to drag. The references to the attraction were well placed, and the audience really enjoyed the familiar lines and scenes.

Although many movies that I've seen have been followed by applause from the audience, this was the first time that the audience actually CHEERED! And, of course, Orlando Bloom had his own cheering section.....

Looks like we have a winner!:)

Aarrrrrrrg!

This is the best movie!!!!!!!! I had never seen so many teenagers, and older people to see a Disney movie! THe movie was great. The cursed pirates were freaky! I liked the special effects, and action scenes. The Haunted Mansion looks like its going to be good also.:)

I see nothing in this movie that a 5 year old couldn`t see let alone an 11 or 12 year old! It`s an aweome movie. The only thing I can see that might be objectionable is that the cursed pirates turn into skeletons in the moonlight. That might scare some overly sensitive children. But I am definately going to see it again.:D

I have a very weak stomach. If I can watch a movie without getting sick, anybody can! (Heck, I passed out when I got my ears pierced!) No sickness in this movie! One thing that I noticed- there wasn't that much blood compared to the amount of fighting in the movie.

I would have been afraid of the movie when I was 5... The skeletons sort of remind me of the Cryptkeeper...

SPOILERS BELOW: DEAD MEN TALE NO TALES!!!:

I saw the movie tonight and I must say that is the best movie I've seen this summer. If you disagree, I guess it's the Disney flowing in my blood but good god it was great!!!! I didn't expect so many references to the ride, but it happened.

My favorite parts of the movie is the fact that it begins and ends with "Yo, Ho, A Pirate's Life For Me". Fantastic!! After seeing the Haunted Mansion preview it gives me hope that the same type of movie will partake it in.

NO MORE SPOILERS!!:

As for a review: Johnny Depp never makes a bad movie. You can find a thread in this forum as soon as it said he was announced to be the star that I said I would be great. He is THE BEST ACTOR IN HOLLYWOOD. PEROID!! I'm being Hunter S. Thompson from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for Halloween this year because of him. He is an absolute acting genius.

The movie is fantasic. By far. Great action, great humor, great love-story, great everything. If you are on this WDWMAGIC board, I assume you interest in seeing it because of the ride. If you are reading this for some other reason, PLEASE GO SEE THIS MOVIE!! It will seriously hook you!!

I totally agree! Ive already seen the movie three times and each time it gets better. I still react at the plot twists and ride refrences as if I havent seen it yet.Im addicted!

Just had the good fortune tonight to see it in Digital Projection.

The theater I went to has sort of a strange layout where you have to go down an escalator, elevator or flight of stairs to get to the theaters after you go past the box office. When I came out of the movie they had a live stunt group in makeup and costumes doing mock sword fighting in the lobby and up the stairs up to where the box office was and they were actually pretty cool – didn’t come off hokey at all.

I went to a 7:00 movie and got seated around 6:15 to an entirely empty theater. By 6:45 there were people walking out because they couldn’t find two or more seats next to each other. Got out at about 9:30 and all the showings for the rest of the night on both screens they had it on were sold out.

I in no way dare to predict how well this movie will do (because I am incredibly biased on so many levels with this one it isn’t even funny) but I think Eisner and Co. will be sleeping good Monday night! ;)

It was a great movie. I was really impressed with it all. I loved all the references to the ride. My hubby and I kept laughing at them all. Alot of people in the audience seemed to notice them too. Hopefully this is the beginning of a run for Disney with Nemo and now this. Although as good as Brother Bear looks it still has me worried. (:lookaroun looking for the knives to be thrown at me)

If you haven't seen it DEFINETLY do. No problems for the kids, maybe a bit scary if they are afraid of skeletons, but nothing other than that.

Magic.

I just saw it here in Richmond (at the Regal Short Pump 14), and all shows on Saturday evening (3 screens) were sold out, except the 10:30 p.m. show, which I saw. It was crowded but not full.

Anyway, one person clapped when it came on, but seemed embarrassed and stop soon. No other crowd reactions. Richmond is not as Disney-centric as Orlando area!

Wish I had seen it there....

Anyway, I had a good time. Fun movie, but not really a "Disney classic," which may be alright anyway, not sure. Fun.

Not for any 5 year old I know, but 10 and over should be fine. If they can handle Harry Potter, then they should be fine with it. When we saw if Friday 6-12-03 at a 6:35 showing the theater was only half full and there seemed to be many 12 year old girls in it ( my 11 year old neice thinks Orlando Bloom is cute, I don't think she is alone!!!)

Don't read if you don't want to know about the movie!

I was really impressed by it, but still a little foggy about the whole curse thing there was some moments when I thought people who weren't cursed maybe should of been (sorry if this spoils anything just a bit confused.)
