Just Returned from a 7 Day Trip to The World...

I and the family just returned from 7 days at WDW. I will be posting a number of threads regarding some thoughts I had while visiting; however, I want to preface any future posts with this information: My family had an amazing time, and WDW was what it always has been for me, a place to spend time with my family: Wife, son, and daughter, where we made countless memories that we will never forget.

With that, I would like bring up my first point of thought from my trip. I think it is time that WDW thinks of creating ECV lanes across all parks. I know this sounds crazy, but the prevalence of these vehicles just keeps growing and growing. Sometimes it seemed more people had ECVs than people who didn't. They stop in the middle of major walkways, turn without notice, run up the back of people's heels, and sometimes run side by side down Main Street after Fireworks, holding up tens of thousands of people behind them. It creates an environment that, to me, seems unsafe. Either that, or require every person with an ECV have a disability.

What say you? (Flame away!)

The running up peoples heels are most likely because the OTHER people stop right in front of them. Also walking people cut in front of them all the time. It think it's frustrating for both sides.

I agree. And I have no problem with their presence; however, I have never seen the number of these vehicles that I saw on this last trip. These things are vehicles, albeit small ones, and it seems as the number of these vehicles continue to increase, foot traffic and ECV traffic, that some practices or procedures might need to be considered by WDW.

We have to rent an ECV for my wife because she has arthritic knees, and cannot take the 8 hours of walking in the parks. Having said that, I have a tendency to cringe when we are moving through the parks. It takes both non-ECV and ECV users to be more careful. My wife is a darn good driver, so we don't usually have any problems, but I have to say, I have observed other ECV drivers who should NOT be allowed in crowded parks... This whole issue is one that makes me want to apologize constantly, but since we take care to be careful, I don't think we belong in the NASCAR ECV driver category...

I think things would go a lot smoother if they charged ECV users an additional fee equal to the number of person-sized spaces that ECV occupies.

Overall I like and agree with your concerns but there is no way ECV users outnumber non users. That might have been the biggest exaggeration I have ever read on this forum. I know you qualified with your "seemed" but come on now.

First off strollers outnumber ECV maybe 10 to 1 and walkers might outnumber those in strollers over 10 fold.

It was for dramatic purposes, only. This was more a post for discussion than an actual opinion on the state of ECV usage in WDW.

Got it
And I fully agree with you that there is a need for dedicated lanes fast approaching. It doesn't take much to clog up a main path with a power scooter
