Just over 180 days to go! A few questions...

We are going to WDW in August, and I have to make my ADRs on Friday.

We haven't been to WDW since 2009, and I'm sure things have changed a lot since then.

Can anyone give me some advice on the following questions?

  1. Dining reservations: we are staying at the Polynesian and love 'Ohana and the Kona Café, so will make some ADRs there. Our children love the Crystal Palace for breakfast, so we will go there too. I need some ideas for great restaurants. We used to love Le Cellier, but it is now 2 credits, and I don't think it's worth that. We like nice food, our children are teenagers, so we don't really want character meals any more (apart from Crystal Palace obviously!). I like the look of the Coral Reef - is it good or bad? I don't mind where the restaurants are as we will have a car, so in the parks or resorts would be fine. We have tried Boma, I know it's very popular, but we didn't like it.
  2. We want to spend one day at Universal, as our children are huge Harry Potter fans. Would it be better to go on a weekday or weekend - or does it make no difference? We will be there the first two weeks of August, I know that's a busy time, but unfortunately we have no choice because of school holidays.
  3. Any other advice for going in August? I know it's going to be very hot and very crowded!!! We are hoping to go to the parks early in the morning, and maybe spend the afternoons by the pool or doing something lazy!

Well I know that the Harry Potter area is located in the park of Islands of Adventure next to Universal Studios! I think you'll be good if you go in the morning. I went in October and there was a 15 min line for the ride in the Harry potter castle! You'll have such a great time! There's also Citywalk (which has shops and restaurants) which is right across from the 2 parks! Have fun! You can also do Blue Man Group which I think your teens will like. I'm a teen myself and I absolutely LOVE the show! It's inbetween the 2 parks!

1. we didnt eat a lot at disney last year but the places we did eat at were rose and crown about 3 times yummy great service we had seats inside and just before illuminations started our server told us to head outside and get a good spot luckily we had finished eating and were waiting for more drinks so we did.
TRex again fantastic.

2. we went to universal IOA in oct i know its a lot slower than august but we got there for opening at IOA and everyone flew past us and went straight to WWOHP i suggest going to hulk, spiderman etc first then head back to WWOHP later in the day it will be a lot slower but no matter what time of day we went to WWOHP the line for olivanders was terrible at least an hour deep! we are massive harry fans here too and had 2 wands to pick up for my niece and nephew so we just went into the owl post place and picked the wands from there there not the same but it had to do sadly :(
butterbeer must buy! the shops are small and crowded but i had to have a little look so i toughed it out for a peek.
if you are looking for a place to eat in IOA we stopped at the sandwich place called blondies in toon lagoon they were delicious and at night we went to hard rock cafe on the city walk the food, service and strawberry daiquiris are top notch, if you want somewhere different my family went to bob marleys and they LOVED it.

have a fantastic time :)

Thanks Sam&mia. My daughters are huge Harry Potter fans, so I think we might spend all day there! I'm not sure if we'll buy the butterbeer though - we tried it in London, and none of us liked it!

It's getting close now - tomorrow I will be making my ADRs!

Ok, these are my choices of restaurants. Kona Café, 'Ohana, Crystal Palace (breakfast), 'Ohana (breakfast), Coral Reef, Rose and Crown, Big River Grille, Olivia's and the Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club.

How do they sound?

I think the Harry Potter experience in London is worth it if you're a big fan. My husband and I enjoyed it, but wouldn't have gone on our own. It was expensive too, about £80 for a family ticket, and you're only there 3-4 hours. My 2 daughters are 12 and 15. They love the HP books and films, and they had a fantastic time. They were thrilled by everything. They loved the cgi thing where they rode on broomsticks, and drove the car, and the loved the middle part of the tour where you see Ron's car, the triple decker bus, and things like that. We bought some butterbeer, even though there was a huge queue! So, I would say go, but only if you are huge fans.
