Just booked last minute

So we were planning all along to take our sons to WDW in January, staying at POFQ, celebrating their first birthdays. But we took them on their first road trip this week and they were so wonderful that my wife said, "it's a pity we can't go to Disney now with you having time off" (I'm a teacher). I took the bait and said, "want to?" and we decided to splurge, get APs and now we are staying at the Contemporary (tower, theme park view) with our 7-month olds as a "prequel trip" 8/18-8/22. Splurging for the MK view is purely for us so we don't get stir crazy when the boys go to bed by 8 pm. Otherwise we would never pay so much for a room. Are we crazy? Never booked a WDW trip this last minute!

If the boys do well, I'll have to try and convince the Mrs. to agree to a THIRD trip in mid-2014 before our APs expire!

Woot! Congrats! Last-minute trips are the best. :)

I've often wondered if anyone walks up to the front desk of a Disney resort without a res and asks to book a room. Now that would be REALLY last minute!
Yes, they do! But if you want the AP rate, you have to call. So you stand there, at the check-in desk, on the phone with reservations, then you hang up and they check you in.

I have made reservations the day before. I've called while driving from the airport to the hotel and I've just walked in. :)

We haven't cut it as close as you but I booked a trip once with less than 30 days to go. And I actually still got some decent dining reservations, Ohana being one of them and this was just a couple years ago.

Have fun with your slurge!
