We`ve just booked for 4 nights / 5 days at the Newport Bay this July - timed for the 3rd night onwards of Wishes and Fantillusion. Of course the DV cam will be travelling, so expect lots of DLP edits later in the summer. Any requests, don`t hesitate to ask!

Thanks Captain! I hope the Met Office have the long range right (incase you havn`t read it, they say July and August will beat 2003.....)

Barnum; me too. Judging by the popularity reports I doubt we`ll see it more than once to get another video angle, but anything I do see will be taped, of course.

Have a great trip Martin! :)

On the the Lion King front, my tip would be to forget waiting in line for the lower seating areas, and instead buy some food, and get a prime spot in the upper area (reserved for diners only). Its an ideal vantage point for video work as well :)

Thanks, Steve. I didn`t realise this about the upper level being for diners only - I can see a long lunch coming up! We must get a balcony view this time too - for the 10th anniversary show we got a `rear balcony` table with not too good a view.

Does anyone have any tips for Fantillusion viewing? I aim to tape it each night (4 times - you know me :D) and want to get all the parade stops. Ta!

If you want to see all three parade stops in the same performance, get a space in the central plaza, it's the only place where the parade stops three times.

Disney's Fantillusion really is a brilliant parade, in my opinion beats SpectoMagic hands down. The music is brilliant and the parade stops set it aside from the other night-time parades.

Hope this helps,
Martin.

Martin,

Thanks! In the Central Plaza, am I correct in that there is some special lighting effects on the castle and surrounding buildings during show stops? I`ve seen a video of the villans stop and there appears to be floods of white flashes on the walls, is this right? It looks so dramatic and I`d aim to have it my video background on the wide shots.

Also, can you recall what floats do what, or do all of them preform in the stop? I`ve seen (again) the villans section (Ursula, Jafar inflatables etc) and also Mickeys floats light show. Thanks for your help, and welcome to the boards!

Yes the show stops are very dramatic because of the light effects and the music.

The first act is "Mickey's Magical Garden" and includes his float, during the stops Mickey's float performs sort a light show. There are other floats in this act which are based around the "garden" theme. During the show stops Disney characters come out of the floats and perform and interact with guests.

The second act is "The Disney Villains" in the order of Maleficent, Jafar and Ursula. As you rightly point out Jafar turns into a snake and Ursula grows, the most impressive float in this act is Maleficent who turns into a huge "fire-breathing" dragon in front of the castle (the lighting of the castle is impressive during this transformation as it turns red).

The final act is the "Happy Ending", featuring Snow White and her Prince, Ariel and Prince Eric, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Jasmin and Minnie Mouse. The show stops are very impressive in this act also. The music is very dramatic as the princes and princess are elevetated above the crowd and start dancing for a "royal ball". The first three floats include dancing characters above the crowd with "mirror balls" projecting light onto the audience. Aladdin and Jasmine fly on their magic carpet during the sequence. The characters then start to dance to the Fantillusion theme... "from the dark of night, comes the magic light, with it's sparking... etc" and the parade comes to an end.

So yes, all floats do perform during the parade, I recommend you simply move posititions in the central plaza each night and you should see every float during the show stop mode.

Words really can't describe it.

Martin.

Thank you all

For such wonderful information; we are booked at Newport Bay a little earlier in the month (I know we'll miss Wishies; have to wait for September to see it at WDW). Can't wait!

doofy87 - welcome

This will be our 2nd trip to DLP (first was July 2002)

I know it like the back of my hand from a lot of research I`ve done, but its always nice to know new things (like Fantillusion)

If you likes the new things, you will like SPACE MOUNTAIN MISSION 2, if you chance has, because there are often small technical problems, effects do not function all the time. Perhaps will be able you to enjoy all during your 5 days

ogryn - sadly my camera dosn`t do NV. It is a 3 CCD DV one though, with quite good low light tolerence. I can but try (adhering to the usual onride safety precautions of course)

doofy87 - I had heard about technical problems with the FX. Here`s hoping we see them all! Personally, I`d have prefered Mission one with all its original effects working, but am looking forward to Mission 2. I`ll miss Steve Bramsons score though. A classic.

Yes, the previous score is unforgettable, but the Mission 2 score is very tonic, energetic.
this score is made by the same one as for "The Incredibles" ... and agrees well with the new Mission of the coaster

I'll be there and back before you go martin, on my first ever trip. Unfortunately we miss Fantallusion and the fireworks, but I'm there for my 18th birthday!!

PS. Is there anything particularly new at DLRP that I might not be aware of, I think I've got up to date but I don't want to miss anything! Thanks!
