Just returned last night from my first trip in over 2 decades and the first for my wife and kids from CA! Wow!! The one thing that made this trip so great was how easy it was to just walk from the DL hotel to both parks and be there in about 10 minutes. NO buses or other transportation needed. The parks were great. We started at DCA as we arrived mid afternoon last Monday and wanted to save the walk up MS USA for Tuesday morning. At first I didnt feel Disney, but after WOC that night, I was hooked!!! Parks were great!! Food was at best so-so (we did 3 character meals and two other sit downs). View of the fireworks form our room was a bonus. The Aladdin show was fantastic. Comparing the rides to WDW was fun. Similar, yet different, and we loved that! The CMs dont seem as outgoing as WDW CMs, but they were nice. I like seeing the name tags and where people are from, and most were from CA. That was a big difference from WDW. We did get to sit in the front and back of the monrail, something no longer allowed in WDW. The one big difference was the charcater interaction. Very hands on!!! Our kids are 9 and 7. This was great for them. At the charcater meals, this was great for us as we waited, but with free range for some kids AND some rude parents, we sometimes needed to wait a little longer. But 11!!! characters and one breakfast and 9!! at the other (and its my understanding they change all the time), this was a huge difference from WDW where you always get the same. All in all, we will be back as nothing left us disappointed (well, maybe matterhorn --- boring, even to my young kids) and the stomach virus my wife and I caught friday morning) There is nothing worse then driving back to your brother in laws in AZ through the the scorching desert for 6 hours having to make frequent dashes to the hot roadside. Yuk! Thats all. Have a great day. And oh yes, Carsland was spectacular!!!! Thats all I can say. It needs to be seen to understand. Wow, just wow!!!!

Sounds fantastic. I'm going next year for the first time since DCA opened - I'm guessing it's changed a little bit. Just wondering what ticket you would recommend? I'm thinking a 3 day PH would be perfect but my BF is thinking a 2-day non-PH would do. He's been to WDW 4 times and we may actually skip a few of the kiddie rides.

Just getting some recommendations from people who have been.

We had a 4 day hopper but never hopped. we are WDW pass holders and move through the parks all the time, but here we just stayed put. we were in at 7 am each day and got so much done early. I wouldnt skip the "kiddie rides" Although both WDW and DL have the same named rides, the rides themselves are NOT the same. Small world, peter pan, snow white, and a few others may have the same name, but they are unique to each park. we were able to do all of fantasy land in under 2 1/2 hours each day by starting at 7 am. that included starting one day on the nemo subs and the other DL day on matterhorn (the only ride we didnt like!!!) anyway, when going to cars land, head right to the racers or you will wait HOURS!!! fast passes are NOT issued prior to actual park hours, so go to the park for early hours and do not go to the fast pass line to wait. have fun

Thank you so much for the tips. It's going to be tough to get my BF's heavy metal band onto Peter Pan but I'm going to try :)
