Just an Observation...

I've been reading the posts these past few weeks and I've noticed a re-occuring trend. It seems that a lot of post's going against "the ideal Disney grain" are coming from brand new members. IE: Threads such as the Main Street Gallery Closing, The Forbidden Mountain Que & Ride, and a TON of Project Gemini ones. It seems like in these posts, long-standing members are being challenged on their opinions, or it's something about something old has to go, and its better that a newer attraction is taking it's place. I'm sorry, I know I did a horrible job explaining that, and I hope no one takes offense. I was merely making and observation and wondering if I was the only one who noticed this. Am I going crazy?!?!?! :hammer:

Paranoia strikes!!

Someone needs to do an analysis. Correlate opinions vs number of posts.

I'll bet I was at Disney World 50 times before most forum members had even been once -- probably before many were born. I have lots of great memories of the way Disney World used to be and I'm as sentimental as the next guy, but I still see that Disney has to change to survive.

I must be going crazy, cause I undertood him and agree with him somewhat:hammer:
except the observation I have seen, barring a few exceptions, like lilbuford is that the people saying that Disney needs to close the old rides and build new updated rides, like project gemini are young people, mostly teenagers or early 20`s and prefer thrill rides, like I said there are a few exceptions, but the ones against Major overhauls are either over their mid 20`s or have families.:)

To continue with what DarthDarrel was saying, I having noticed the same thing... I find it so funny when someone posts that they've never been on Horizons or 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (among many others) because they're too young. But I think its pretty natural for them to think that the older rides that are still around are dated and should be replaced. But when I first rode those rides, they were new and exciting!

However, I have not noticed that the people who have been on the forums the longest are the only ones trying to save the old rides. I'm new to forums but that doesn't mean that I'm any newer to DisneyWorld..it just means I found the forums later than others. So I think that theory has some flaws, no offense. But the age issue is definately a factor!

Not exactly sure where you're going, but alot of topics have been discussed numerous times in previous threads in the past 2-3 yrs, so that is why I don't respond to alot of threads, because they are redundant. I understand though that alot of topics will repeat, because their are only so many Disney things to talk about. Like the previous poster stated, and I agree. Alot of us on here are older, and have different views on WDW and changes to our beloved resort.

I thought I explained that kinda funny. That's my fault- sorry guys. Lemme see if I can clarify with a few hypothetical examples.

The Main Street Gallery is being closed and a few people remark how they'll miss it and how it shouldn't go.
-Then someone responds- usually just joined- saying something to the extent of "people would be upset if a popcorn cart closed" (Actually I think that was said)

Another one:
The whole Time Racer/Spaceship Earth saga. Most of us really don't want to see the ride go. But most who say it would be an improvement tend to be newer members. MOST (I said most)

I dunno- kind of a stupid observation on my part. Oh well...Thanks for replying though!

See, I do realize that there are many "younger" people that are saying that they should change WDW to add more thrills and whatnot...well...

I hate to admit it...and I never thought I'd say it...but...maybe they should.

Not "CHANGE" it by removing classic attractions in place of attractions that do not tend to the needs of the people riding the "classic" attraction but updating and even changing completely.

Do I feel that SE should change to a thrill ride? No...this is what I mean...change it to be another "family attraction."

Do I feel that WDW needs thrilling attractions? Yes...very much so...but design them and create them with some "WDI Style" (like Tower of Terror).

We must not forget the old...but...if only the old exists...it will be outdated... (Think of the Ford Mustang...granted the 1966 is a classic...but...would it be able to compete if the same vehicle was being sold next to a brand new Corvette or Camaro...for the same price???)

Keep the "flair and character" of the classic Mustang...but make it new...so that it'll attract the younger buyers and older buyers alike. (Same with WDW)

Freak, I totally agree with you. 100%.
When Disney first started closing down rides like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Horizons and World of Motion.. I was really upset. Those were the classic attractions that I loved. However, they've taken so many of my favorite rides away that I am sort of become numb to it.. with the mindset of "Sure, close another one.. the others are all gone, so why not."
Plus, Disney has proven to me that they can make really great rides with Tower of Terror, Test Track, Dinosaur, and Rock N' Roller Coaster, and many others...
I love Spaceship Earth, don't get me wrong, but I think that it does need to be redone. I am content on going with the flow and putting my trust into the people who apparently know what they are doing. We'll see if that trust is founded!!

Oh and I prefer the 66' Pontiac GTO myself

Yeah, that's me.
I always said that if I had the time and the money (and the garage space), I would want a 66' Pontiac GTO with a V8 389 3x2 bbl, 2 door convertible, in steel blue... and a Delorean
