I have reservations at SS from 11/1-11/8. I was hoping to try out one of the other DVC resorts. Does anyone have points to trade during this time frame? I'd like to still be there on 11/1, it's my son's birthday. Thanks!:animwink:

If you are using your own points for that reservation, have you called Customer Service and asked to be put on a waiting list for other resorts?

Yep, we're on a waiting list for all of the other resorts with the exception of OKW. Last year we were only able to get into OKW and SS as well. I have a 1 bedroom reserved, but I even tried finding a studio or a 2 bedroom as well, but also no availability.

Sooooo...unless I understand you wrong, you're not really looking for points to trade, per se... you're looking to trade vacation time with people also booked during that time frame.

Your vacation is about 2 months away. You (and every other DVC member) have been able to book outside their home resorts for 11/1 vacations since April. For a November vacation at, for example the Boardwalk, having Boardwalk points handy won't help you now. Either rooms are available for anyone, or they're not.

Someone else's points won't help you at this late stage...there will be no room at those villas no matter whose points you use.

Now if someone already has a vacation booked at that time at a different resort, and is willing to swap with you, then you might be in luck. Only thing is, SSR tends to be one of the less-popular DVC destinations.. Dont' get me wrong, *I* like it, it's my home resort and I like being close to DTD and all that, but most people seem to prefer VWL, BWV and BCV, being close to at least one of the parks and all.

I think your best bet is to keep calling DVC back. Wait list, shmait list, you gotta be aggressive and keep calling. I could be wrong, but I think, when a cancellation occurs, they won't start calling people on the wait list until the next day. They're not trying to be jerks about it, it's just that the people who take your calls aren't the same people who call you and tell you that rooms have opened up in your resort of choice. And the people who can call you don't get that information about the new rooms until the next day. So every day, you have an opportunity to snag any cancelled rooms before they get around to calling people on the wait list (and of course, just because you're on the wait list doesn't mean you're FIRST on the wait list). So keep calling, and good luck.

(One other suggestion - have you thought about splitting your vacation up between 2 resorts? See if one of the other resorts are available for half of your vacation time.

I never thought about splitting up time between 2 resorts. Have you ever done this? I'll try calling them today. Which DVC resorts have you stayed at? We actually booked in April, and according to DVC it was still only SS and OKW.

last year, we spent a week in a Wilderness Lodge studio, followed by 3 nights in a 1BR villa at the Boardwalk. Great to spend time in both resorts (and we did spend soe quality leisure time at both), be able to boat to MK, but then be able to boat or walk to Epcot & the studios. The day we switched, we called ahead & were able to get into BW before 9am, and bell services moved our bigger bags. Plus, 3 nights in the 1BR villa gave us just enough time to do ALL our laundry before leaving, which was pretty convenient, just throwing loads in when we were in our room, as opposed to spending a whole afternoon in a laundry room. Good luck.

Thanks for all the info. I am going to call Monday and see where the availability is to split between resorts. What's your favorite resort to stay at? We have two kids, 9 on the first day of the trip and 11. I'm wondering if splitting up the resorts allows us to stay at 2 diff resorts other than SS.

Waitlist FYI:

They no longer call and notify you of a waitlist match. When a reservation cancels, the system automatically grabs the room for the first person on the waitlist who matches the dates available. Then a confirmation letter is generated. You just get that in the mail. There is no calling any longer therefore there is no delay in the waitlist process (as maybe there was in the past).

I think this changed only a few months (to a year) ago.

OP, I hope you get what you are looking for. We split resorts all of the time. My only advice is that you not plan an early morning on the day you switch resorts and also do not plan a rest at the resort that day. Leave a little later and call bell services. They will move all of your luggage for you to the new resort. Then go directly to your new hotel and "check in" (You will most likely be given a card to call after 4:00pm when your room is ready.) and then head to the parks. This way you can call, get your room number, go straight to your new room (they will give you new KTTW cards when you "check in" - these will work your new door) and the call bell services to deliver your luggage.

Good luck and have a great trip!!:sohappy:

First of all, don't sell SSR short. Sure, it's huge, but the grounds are lovely, fun to walk around (or rent bikes), it's got a great pool (where, from what I've been led to understand, they've made a habit of often showing Disney movies while you swim at night), plus many quiet pools. Great playground. You'll have access to water recreation. Walking/boating distance to Downtown Disney, which might not be as great for your kids if they're not all about shopping, but you'll be close to DisneyQuest and a lot of tasty snack shops, counter service restaurants...it's not exactly the gulag :)

Bear in mind, I've so far stayed at only SSR, Boardwalk Villas & Wilderness Lodge Villas (plus Vero Beach a long time ago and Hilton Head in 2005). I stayed in Animal Kingdom Lodge before it went DVC, and am most looking forward to one day staying there (though no luck this time). I'd also really like to stay at the Beach Club one day (will try again in a few years, when my baby will be old enough to appreciate the pool) and have been there to eat and snoop around. And I've visited OKW in the past, just for chucks and giggles one day before leaving for home (picked up some sandwiches for the trip. So I've at least a little bit of experience with all of the Villas, even where I haven't stayed. I'm more than happy to stay in any of them, but the way membership increases & based on the times of year I CAN go, I wouldn't be surprised if, more often than not, it's SSR and OKW.

NOW, having said all that, going to Disney World...it's all about the Magic Kingdom, isn't it? And being able to take the ferry from WLV to the Magic Kingdom, watching the water pageant, busing over to Fort Wilderness for their campfire singalong and movies...I'd shoot for WLV first, especially with 2 kids, one having a birthday.

My most favorite resort is AKL, savannah view room. Unfortunately, from what I can tell, they are fully booked (at least 2 weeks ago when I called again for our vacation - we're on their waiting list to trade with our current reservation at SSR).

The shortage of DVC rooms at AKL shouldn't be as bad next near when the Kidani Village is in full operation.
