Wondering if anyone has had success obtaining a certain room in Skippers Canteen. I was just able to get a ADR 2nd week in November, but of course it does not give option for seating preferences. Curious if anyone has done so and how they went about doing it. THANKS! :) General impressions welcome on the food too....;).

I love the food and have a lunch ADR there in September. I loved when it was walk up only. The S.E.A Shui Mai is terrific! Mac and Cheese is very good, I also had the grilled steak which was terrific. Deserts I had the Kungaloosh! and the Bahn Ban Long Cake which were both great, I preferred the Kungaloosh! I went twice because of the Shui Mai.

Overall, it's a bit pricey for what you get and I had a friend complain to me about that, but it is definitely different for MK. First time I went I sat in the butterfly room and the second time I was in the mess hall, both were cool, I loved the butterfly room.

But did you have a choice of rooms or was it just where they seated you? Thanks! I use my Disney Reward Dollars from my Visa so the price doesn't phase me too much....it's location location location.... :)

There's no way to reserve a specific room beforehand, as far as I know. All you can do is, when you check in for your ADR, say, "Also, if possible, we'd love to sit in ____. Thanks!" We do this every time we eat at Be Our Guest. We always ask to sit in the West Wing and we have every time. Be aware, though, that 1) they may not be able to accommodate your request (but they will surely do their best), and 2) there's a good chance you'll have to wait longer to get a specific room. We're eating here for the first time this December. We're so excited! And we'll probably request the S.E.A. room. Out of curiosity, what room are you hoping to get seated in?

Hi Carrie! Yes I too would love the S.E.A. room.....and that butterfly booth is adorable, but being a party of 2 bet they save that for a larger grouping. I am still praying for a heads up on a BOG ressie through Touringplans.....I didn't know I was going to be able to go until under 180 days....and am still trying to deal with the shock to my system that my very favorite ride ever (Big Thunder Mtn) will be under refurb....my wings can barely flap.....have plotted all my other trips around it's shutdowns successfully, and thought they were all previously done during winter months.....sigh....guess I will have to start planning ANOTHER trip in the future because of my loss....:angelic:.

Anyhow last trip we peeked into this new space that is the Skippers Canteen and much to my boys dismay all there was to see was a fairy meet and greet........but we had great fun seeing the remnants of it's prior restaurant days. :D Thanks for the suggestion we have an early dinner time so maybe it will not be too awfully full....;). Thinking worth the wait to go through the secret bookshelves....good luck that you get into the inner sanctum!

You never know! If you're eating at a time when there are no large groups, you could land the butterfly booth! It never hurts to ask! :)

Stay vigilant about BOG! People cancel as their trips/ADRs get closer, sometimes even only a day or two before. I too am pretty bummed that BTM will be closed for refurb when we're there. It's one of our favorites. But you're right, any excuse for another trip ;)

Good luck getting the S.E.A. room and the butterfly booth! Fingers crossed!

We're there the last week of November and first week of December. I know the refurb is theoretically supposed to be done by then, but I also know that Disney has been notorious for things running behind schedule lately, so I'm planning on it still being closed. That way, if it is open, it will be a pleasant surprise. I'm sorry it won't be open for yours :(

I am pretty sure BTM and SM have always been open on refurb estimate dates over the years I have gone....er I might be thinking on the shutdown dates moreso......so here's to hoping they exceed your expectations! :) I know they need attention.....I am just suffering withdrawal....its been two whole years!!!o_O (breathe Tink breathe....)

I just ate at Skipper's Canteen a few days ago and it was FANTASTIC! I was under the impression that hubby was going to share his pork char shiu dish and I was going to share my steak, but hubby hogged the pork (no pun intended) but I did get a couple bites. Both our dishes were good and we shared the mac and cheese (it was not traditional but that was fine with us). The Kungaloosh was great too, very light banana flavors that paired well with the chocolate. We sat in the main dining room and there was so much to look at. I enjoyed the door tributes to the imgineers as well. I know a lot of people say the food is too exotic, but I personally think that having different flavor profiles is good so I hope that the menu doesn't change. People complained about Be Our Guest (especially the kid's menu) at first too and that restaurant is still busy.

Thanks for the info! I hope they exceed my expectations too!

Two years! I'm glad you're going this year, then :) It's two days after I leave and I'm suffering withdrawal ;)

This restaurant is like a little oasis in the middle of MK. Excellent food, great theme, and ask for Robert to be your waiter

Location at Skippers Canteen are really no different than asking for a window table at CRT, or a patio table at Rose & Crown, or heck, even just a booth vs a table. Depending on the availability and sizing of the table, they will usually attempt to seat you there, but you may have an extended wait until something opens. You would need to make this request when you check in at the host/hostess stand.
