I've had a few good Skippers on the boats in WDW...
When I was younger, I had the experience of being named first mate and the cast member let me "drive" the boat. We reached Schweitzer's Falls and he was in such a great dramatic panic, urging me to to turn the boat to the right. A true Maynard cast member.
However recently, I've been a tad bit disgusted at the lack of emotion and character the skippers have. In the past year, I've had a total of four-five different skippers. Three of which were women, none of which went past the standard script.
Then there is one older gentleman I think should retire or be moved into the Hall of Presidents. He babbled with a guest about nothing during the ride and then, when he was on script, was barely audible. He was lucky I just had a Dole Whip or I probably would have jumped ship.
However there was one other male skipper who really played it up and at points, had me laughing at stuff that I heard millions of times. He did go off script and I applaud that... we need more fresh improv from these skippers!
