JC boats are on a track.
KS is not on a track.

Hidden barriers block dangerous animals from reaching you on KS. Rocks, moats, ditches, etc. :)

Nope, we have had to wait for animals to cross our paths before continuing. The dangerous ones are kept away by very nice hidden barriers. Lions come to mind right off. You can see them from a distance and they never get close.

I believe JC is on a track, but KS is not on a track. I dont know if you have the Travel Channel, but they show the behind the scenes at AK all the time. I think it is worth watching once since it is pretty interesting. They show you how the dangerous animals are contained without cages and general info about the park. Check it out the next time it is on.

we noticed a lot of 'electric bushes' and 'grasses' around to to keep the animals where they should be. on one of the walking trails where theres some deer type animals, to keep them away from the viewing area there are lots of electic spikes that llook like grasses..very clever.i only noticed them cause you can hear them humming and clicking!
ps looking at the pride rock photo, they dont have much room do they, its seems very small

If you watch for the Animal Kingdom special on Travel Channel they show a lot of behind the scenes stuff on the Safari that shows you the "invisible" barriers.

Black rhino

When on the KS, we came around a corner and a rhino was moving right next to the path. The rhino and the driver both were startled pretty good. The driver didn't see it until we were right on top of it. Somebody could have reached out an touch it. The rhino was not happy with us at all. We didn't move for some time until the rhino cleared away from the truck. I don't see why it couldn't knock us over if it so choose to.

Kilimanjaro Safaris is not attached to a track. Jungle Cruise boats are technically guided by a trough, not a "track," per se...although as I always like to say, they're "magical" boats...and a lot of the skippers seem to be on "pixie dust."
