I know this is just a little suprise extra addition that nobody really expected, but they couldn’t have been bothered to make them move a little like they did 50 years ago or even just put them on a surface where the frog on the right’s legs aren’t floating?

The lack of movement doesn't bother me, but the floating legs are unfortunate.

Great quality photo, it looks like these are newly sculpted figures as it appears the mouths are no longer made to move anymore (speaking of which here’s the original mechanism):

Also these photos of the original figures were shown at a Marc Davis convention a while back:

The floating legs don't look very good, but this is one time I'm willing to give them some leeway -- mainly because I don't think they really had any budget for this.

I'm guessing this was something the Imagineering team decided they could do as a quick add to the overhaul to nod at the history of the ride, and had to do it very cheaply because it wasn't something the company cared about. I don't think they had the budget/resources to actually build AAs or anything remotely like that.

But who knows; I'm just speculating.

Fair points, and I imagine the floating effect isn't really visible except through close-up photos.

It costs 0 dollars to make sure the frog's legs are attached to the log, though. lol

It's not that simple -- I don't think there's any way to position those frogs so that every leg looked like it was in the right place while also not looking like the frog was about to fall backwards off the log. I think the whole figure would need to be redesigned.

That's really what I meant about giving them leeway with little to no budget (if that's the case). I'm thinking they didn't have the time or money to design and redesign prototypes so that it looked perfect. I'm imagining it was more along the lines of "let's quickly get something fabricated that looks like the original frogs".
