Disney Books a Jungle Cruise Source: The Hollywood Reporter Monday, May 17, 2004

The Hollywood Reporter says that another Disney theme park ride, Jungle Cruise, is being turned into an action-adventure feature.

On Jungle Cruise, riders travel the rivers of the jungle guided by a riverboat skipper, encountering wild animals along the way. The first version of the Jungle Cruise ride was based on Walt Disney's True Life Adventure Series.

The period piece will be developed in the vein of Disney adventure films of the past, adds the trade. "It's completely inspired by and relates to the ride and will contain elements of the ride in the story," said David Hoberman, who will produce the feature.

This should be interesting, not much to work with, is there?

How exciting! :D

I love the Jungle Cruise! I wanted that to be the next live-action movie! Maybe they will do a ToT movie...besides the one already made for TV!

Gotta love to Skipper's jokes!

sounds good but what is its plot going to be. in the haunted mansion they barely managed to pull it all together. but jc is a bunch of different animals from different rivers of the world.

I bet the story will be something along the lines of these people go on a guided river tour in search of something that lies deep within the jungle. Things go wrong and they encounter all the different things from the ride. I can already visuallize a scene where natives are throwing spears at the boat and trying to attack and another "jaws" inspired scene except with hippos trying to turn over the boat or attack or something. It could be either really good, or really bad.

Am I the only one who feels this is going to be a disaster? Maybe it's too early to tell, but I really don't think it's going to translate well. Pirates worked really well because of the story inherent in it. HM could have worked, but it was terribly botched. Maybe I'm pessimestic but I have very little faith in this adaptation. It just doesn't seem to fit. The JC works because it plays off of it's own corniness. That just won't work in a movie.

i agree and disagree. if they made it a slapstick comedy maybe it would work. i think that they should go the adventure suspense route, and throw in humor like in Pirates.

but then again, that would basically be pirates meets the amazon.

I think BTMR or Space Mountain would have been better movie material than JC.

Sort of on the same subject, I am kind of concerned about the craze of making movies about the attractions. Pirates was a good, good movie. HM was an ok movie, could have been allot better if the main character would have been someone other than Eddie M. Country Bear wasnt even worth seeing. Has Disney run out of material to the point they have to start "pillaging" the parks for movie subjects?

Hopefully they make it more like "The Mummy" (ducks tomatoes being thrown her direction--I know, boo hiss Universal *wink*) than "Haunted Mansion"...if so I'll probably see it several times :D

Amen. You know, Disney could have very well been involved with movies like Lord of The Rings if they wanted to. You would be suprised how many studios Disney owns under other names. To let really good movies get away to competitors is sad. Just think what they could have done with the licensing rights to Lord of the Rings.

Heading for the great escape.
It could of course be a buddy movie about two numpties that work in a theme park ride telling cheesy jokes but harbour secrets to be a top comedian.
