To differentiate the two, the one in California is called "Jurassic Park: The Ride" while the IOA version is "Jurassic Park River Adventure"

The naming maakes sense.

At USC the attraction is a stand alone movie ride experience. At IOA, the area is supposed to be the real live Jurassic Park and the first movie actually gave the attraction its name - during the luncheon sequence. It flashes on the screens as a "comming attraction."

I noticed that too. Although this is not necessarily connected, the book Jurassic Park has several sequences involving Alan Grant and the kids floating down JP river.

This could possibly be the reason for making JPRA/JPTR a shoot-the-chute/flume/dark ride attraction rather than a live jeep attraction like the movie. Or it could entirely be made up and they never even looked at the book. :p
