Johnny Depp's Tonto Inspiration?

Didn't know where to put this, but I thought some of you'd like to see it. Mods, feel free to move it to it's proper location.

The modern world is a discriminating, hard-to-please place now, so obviously when the first photo of Johnny Depp as Tonto came out, everyone instantly started bashing it. I just laughed. I knew what had happened. I guessed the Johnny was probably researching Native American Indian culture, saw a picture of an old Shaman with a dead bird on his head, and thought, 'Oh yeah!' Turns out, I was close. No conformation, but y'all check this out. I was searching the internet for a project of my own, and found this. Ironic, wouldn't you say? Not nessisarilly a picture in an old book, but never-the-less, a painting you know Johnny saw, and was like, 'Oh yeah,' lol! I'll post a link to the original site below.

Turns out, this painting DID inspire Depp to go with that look. Proof? Check out the website of Kirby Stattler, the artist of the painting. He's a very popular artist has done some powerful stuff before. http://kirbysattler.sattlerartprint.com/

Johnny Depp is probably my favorite actor of all time, but if someone would have said Johnny Depp and Disney Studios would become a dream team I would have never believed it. This match up still amuses me.

Maybe they should have casted Depp as John Carpenter :ROFLOL:

John Carpenter??? Did you mean John Carter? Depp as Carter would have been hilarious because of his stature....how would he have filled out the loincloth (lack of costume)?:ROFLOL:

As far as the Lone Ranger goes...I'm looking forward to this one. Always loved the duo as a kid and Depp's casting is awesome. Can't wait!

Yes. I meant Carter. Guess the title made an impact on me. :lookaroun

I agree. I think when Depo is allowed to take a character and go with it, it's going to be good.

I'd hate to have to try and pull of a lead role with Johnny Depp in the supporting role. GL Lone Ranger!

I know I will get flamed for this but..

The Lone Ranger does not dress in black. He always was always in white. So, sorry, but the look of the Lone Ranger for this movie is all wrong.

As far as Depp as Tonto, if he did not have the Crow or what ever bird on his head it would have been perfect. Think he will do a good job though.

But an unknown was the way to go. You can't have one of the bigest actors of our generation be the supporting role, and then try to get someone to top him. Why try? I was so glad/impressed/relieved that they picked an unknown, and the guy looks the part. Square-jawed, two-fisted action hero.

Armie Hammer is an unknown?

Armie Hammer is hardly unknown. He had a major role in Social Network and is the co-lead in one of this week's new releases.

As for Johnny Depp I find him massively overrated.

When compared to other rumored actors that were up for the role, like George Clooney... yes. :hurl:

Besides, there's no arguing the point. It's not like it's just me saying that, 'That's just Tyler's opinion...' No. I'm not the first to say it. When it was announced, almost every article began with something along the lines of 'New Comer Armie Hammer,' or 'The Social Network's Armie Hammer' (note the mention of only one film).

Love y'all!

He wore a white HAT, but a blue shirt. The original Lone Ranger was in black and white, colorized posters from the era show him in blue.

Yes you are correct. Was having a bad day that day.(Meant to say white hat light blue shirt. Not a good day for me that day) However, blue is still not black. Put him in the same color blue shirt he had in the TV show.

Sorry, but The Lone Ranger should not be in black.
