Yahoo is quick on the ball, I knew about it this morning.

Besides, that's just a legal footnote, it's not happening anytime soon. The actual big news is the confirmation that Johnny Depp will be playing the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's animated Alice in Wonderland, the even bigger news is that he'll be playing Tonto in The Lone Ranger. (Possibly with George Clooney in the title role!!! Awesome!!! I'll take that now please!)

It's also be written by the Epicly-amazing-writers of Pirates of the Caribbean!
:D

I love the series but they should STOP while they are ahead.
well, I think they can actually redeem themselves a bit from what they got away from in PotC 1. If they return to a good battle between Jack and Barbossa type style and not these EPIC stories, I think they could be easier to watch and absorb.

They just got so complicated for your average audience. The first one was close to the border for average audiences.... but still kept it enjoyable if you didnt totally get the "ghost" part of the pirates. They 2nd and 3rd were so in depth, you were lost within the first 30 minutes.

all of this of course is MHO.

I'm hoping Pirates 4 will be more of a spin-off rather than an actual continuation of the trilogy. Basically an epilogue to the trilogy if you will. Either way, I'm excited!:sohappy: I'm also very excited by the Alice in Wonderland and Lone Ranger news.

I'd like to see a continuation of the very ending of the trilogy, with Barbossa in possession of the Pearl and Sparrow in possession of the map to the Fountain of Youth. I think that would make a great story.

No offense to Orlando and Keira fans, but I don't see any need to bring back Will and Elizabeth. Their saga is complete. :)

A complicated story about characters that you love make you want the DVD. I had to watch Worlds End many times to absorb the nuances. I love deep Dep.

Clooney/Depp? Slap me twice and hand me to my momma.

I won't lie. A blanket 'POTC 4' scares the hell out of me.

I was a huge Star Wars fan. The 4th installment was brutal. I was a huge Indy fan. The 4th installment was brutal. The key there was George Lucas. Once great, now a shell.

POTC 1 was awesome, and I really liked the next 2. But is Depp needed for the franchise? No, not unless it really is Jack Sparrow - who sailed in the first movie on a sinking boat. Not being surrounded by clones of himself, on a beach. We loved the zombie crew - not Jack being the 'saviour' of the Caribbean, or all pirates - especially not if he's come back from the dead. There was a much better plot line with him being the lover of Tia Dalma than she being who she was...

It's doesn't need to be so over the top. I think all fans loved the swashbuckling. Not the Tia is the goddess of the sea.

I don't want a great (cuz he's not perfect) hero like Jack being relegated into a role like Indy in Crystal Skull. There was a lot that was great about Indy 4, until the UFO bit at the end. The backstory about his efforts in WWII, etc - were awesome. But to introduce a UFO - well, that's where Fringe will prove to exceed X-Files, cuz a writer like Abrams won't let that happen. Abrams gave us a Godzilla movie from the ground up, and bless him for that.

Seriously - am I wrong in saying that we just want our Jack to be swashbuckling?

Bruckheimer has proven himself pretty sharp. This isn't 20 years later. I kinda look forward to an introspective Sparrow with a dark burton groove and a wee bit of harsh swash. Perhaps a warped love story.

I have to think that the new PotC will be a few years down the road, especially if they are doing both "The Lone Ranger" and "Alice in Wonderland" before it, but I can't wait for when it does come out!!!

:ROFLOL:
I just find this a little funny since, in my mind, Bruckheimer is associated with the degradation of cinema to explosion-fests. The Pirates movies are fun popcorn flicks, nothing more (possibly excepting the first). Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them, but they certainly aren't anything complex or thought-provoking. The next one will be just like its predecessors.
