'Film is the thing I am most comfortable with. If film were to go away – and digital is challenging it – then the standard for the highest, best quality would go away.’

Can't deny it... Film IS the standard of a true quality. Regardless, it is more convenient to shoot digital but there is just a "feel" that comes with film. Peter Jackson and his RED cameras have a place but there's a lot to say for a film shot based film.

It's just "one of those" things...

I hope he uses what he knows best but the transition to digital shooting is just a matter of time. Most films are already shown in a digital format so that "warmth of film" just needs an Instagram filter when shot.

Unfortunately you are right. The last time I saw an Imax film I was disgusted by it. I paid a premium price and yet was actually able to see the individual pixels on the screen.... felt like I was just watching a big TV and sitting too close to the screen.

They bring up a good point. You can give the best tech to anybody but they still have to know what they are doing. Crappy equipment in the hands of a master will produce good results. I hope the digital tinkering of, not restoring of, films after they have been released does not become more common.

Maybe my local theater will deploy a Dolby Digital cell phone dampening field.

SO true in the still world too! People get caught up in having to have the newest greatest thing, but the fact is that if you don't know how to use it it's not going look any better
