Jewelry in the safe

This isn't a DCL story, just about cruising in general. I saw this on a TV show about Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas.

A married couple went ashore at the ship's final port of call and then missed the ship's departure at the end of the day. So they had to fly back to Ft. Lauderdale and meet the ship at the dock to recover their luggage. But they had also left about $4,000 worth of jewelry in their stateroom's safe  , and of course were not allowed to re-board the ship while all the other guests were disembarking.

They eventually got the jewelry back, although I can't remember if they were allowed back onboard or if a crew member opened the safe and retrieved it. I just thought it was a pretty amazing story. I've heard of people missing the ship, but never heard of a case where they couldn't get their stuff back when they got back to port.

Anybody else have any good stories about missing the ship?

Not any personal stories, but there was a show about the building of the Oasis of The Seas on about a week ago.

Part of it covered the port procedures, and a number of people were denied boarding, or almost denied boarding. Stories included:

Packing their passports in their luggage, and then checking it

Getting married, and then having the wrong name on all of the cruise documentation

Taking their experied passport, not their current one, with them

Being divorced and having a different last name than their minor child, and having no documentation that they were allowed to take the child out of the country.

On a full ship, they said they had about 20 "issues" to resolve, which was a light load for the port crew. They were able to get all but two parties onto the ship.

That's the same show I saw, Dave. I guess I said Allure b/c that's the one I toured while in Florida last month. But you're right, the show was about the Oasis.

What did you think about the bags they use for cleaning up rooms with the Norovirus? They put all the linens in these bags that dissolve in water and then put the whole bag in the washing machines so the laundry room staff don't ever have to touch the germy sheets and towels. Pretty cool!

I must have missed that part (I was in and out of the room) but that does sound pretty cool. I was impressed with the way they checked everything, and switched out over two dozen mattresses because they were lumpy. The laundry system was also pretty cool - thats a LOT of laundry.
