1997. I was still single. Had not met my future wife at that point. Bought two tickets for Phantom at "Her Majesty's Theatre" and hoped while I did some tourism on my own I'd meet a girl that I could take.
Well I did. I met an Irish girl who was working at my hotel in the Kensington....near Kensington Palace.
We had a ......as the Irish would say: "We had a LOVELY evening." ;) (Great show....then she took me on a walking tour of the city. Pickadilly Circus (spelling?)was/is comparable to Times Square.

Ok, so this is one of the coolest stories that I’ve heard!!! LOVE everything about it. What a fantastic day and memory for you. :)

And also.. what a lucky girl!! Probably not every day that someone invited her to see Phantom!

@SteveBrickNJ Do you remember the semi-comedy version of Phantom? I want to say it toured in the early 90s.. I know I was either in 8th grade or lower years of high school when I went. Ugh., if I don’t remember then I’m going to have to pull out all of my packed away play bills..
Not total comedy, but an adaption.. it was still called phantom of the opera.. different director. It’s driving me nuts now.

I can't help.....but I DID once see a NJ production of a Phantom play that was NOT the Broadway or London production. Not Andrew L. Webber's music. Can't remember any details though :(

Don't even remember who my date was :D:eek::rolleyes::joyfull:

Tried putting in a variety of phrases in google but couldn't solve your mystery. I'm sure you'll get it.

Times Square is better but London's Picadilly Circus has a cool vibe to it.

I think I saw that one as well... I thought when I went that it was ALW's, but, it wasn't. I was completely disappointed.
Wow! Disappointed....Same as me!
This production Goofyernmost and I saw could be what @21stamps is trying to remember. I shouldn't have called it a "NJ production". I was just trying to get across the idea that: 1)I saw it in NJ not in NYC 2)it was not "the real" Phantom

Meh. Compared with a Ted Neeley/Carl Anderson pairing, who wore their roles like a second skin (or even the poor substitute for Yvonne Elliman), I'm surprised I sat through it at all . . .

I think you have to be very careful when comparing stage productions especially with hit broadway shows. Mainly because he actor/singer brings his own flavored and it's never going to be the same to the first.

Hamilton is suffering from that now. the original cast was tremendous and the touring and replacements are unfortunately always going to be compared to them even though they are quite good.

I really enjoyed the presentation. I thought the dancing and muscians were tremendous.

I haven’t remembered! Soccer practice was cancelled tonight so we went to a bounce house for a while.. I should have been searching online instead of in the political threads.lol

I do have all of my old playbills packed away in a box in the basement.. if I don’t solve it by tonight then I’m going to dig out that box this weekend!

I’ve been searching YouTube because I’m not finding results on Google...

Came across this gem! I’m a huge fan of Lea Salonga. I saw her on Broadway as Eponine..and then too many years went by until I saw her in concert in 2016.

Someone made a video of On My Own rotating back and forth from 1995 and 2017. Worth a watch if anyone is interested :)

Ah, yes... the old "I have a spare ticket to see Phantom" ploy... very nice...
