Im reading a lot about people missing Jeremy Irons in SSE...AND I agree he was real good BUT...IMHO Walter Cronkite's voice over in SSE was absolutly hands down the BEST (IMHO!)...I know this goes back a ways for many who might not remember..but his voice was sooooo soothing! I wonderr if you can find his rendition on you tube? Im off to find out

The Epcot Manifesto
I've got a strong VERY strong nostalgic attachment to the Cronkite narration. It shaped my view of the entire EPCOT Center from it's earliest years. I'll admit though, objectivly, I went back recently and re-listened to both, and I just think that the Irons version is better IMO.

The obssession with Dench these days is over the top. I can't believe she was basically the bond girl/love interest in the last Bond film. She old.

Irons is boss, and a quality Disney villain to top it off.

Judy Dench is my favourite narration since it was the first and only one I have experienced.

Then again I do prefer the extended ride experience of old rather than looking at some little screens, which I do find rather funny lol

I hope that a member on here does not mind the plug, but for anyone out there wanting to do a little comparing between versions, try looking around here:

Martins Videos are always a treat. It's to bad that all the HD Camera's didn't exist when Walter was making us feel good about the planet, but even as dark as it was, it was a rush to listen to "the other Uncle Walt" telling us the way it was at the time. Thanks for the flashback Martin.

Cronkite maybe..... but nothing beats Tomorrow's Child when you hit that third chorus with the projection screens, the mirror images, the reflected lights, the lasers.....

ahhhh.....

Think of how much better EPCOT would be if Imagination hadn't been screwed with and the endings of UoE and SSE were still cool. Also, if the beginning of UoE was still cool.

Jermey Irons was my favorite narration. I am about to get slammed but I never cared for the Tomoorw's Child song. I wish they would just fix the whole dang thing!

Eh. To each his own. I'm not a fan of Cronkite's clipped delivery. Always sounded more like he's giving you news headlines.

Jeremy Irons though....he owned the narration.

I've experienced Dench in person, but I've only listened to the Irons and Cronkite versions on the Disney radio or YouTube. Irons is my favorite by far. Cronkite was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

In person, the Cronkite version was very similar to the Irons version.

I have not heard the Dench version, so I can't say much to that. But... I heard a GE commercial tonight with Hugo Weaving reprising his Agent Smith role... Without so much of the Smith inflections, I think Hugo Weaving could bring alot to the SSE content. Listen, especially when he is on the stretcher and really starts in on the GE spiel.

The dumbing down of EPCOT started when they replaced the voice artist (Perrin) with the celebrity host (Cronkite).

Cronkite was to SSE what Ellen is to Energy. From there it got worse. Voice actor Perrin to the celeb journalist Cronkite to the celeb Irons. At least the downward spiral was ended when Irons was replaced by another celeb instead of by Nemo or Stitch. Phew.

Although intellectual honesty compels me accept that not every change has been poor, or for the worse. There is something to be said for the inclusion of Tomorrow's Child under Cronkite, for the new scenes and score of Irons, and even for many elements of the Dench era.
