JEDI TRAINING - HARD TO SIGN UP?

So we are headed to Disney next weekend and are going to sign my son up. We will be there at rope drop. Is there any way to ask for your kid to fight Vader instead of the Seventh Sister? My son has been looking forward to fighting Vader for a year (he is a 5 year old).

Just curious.

I'm sure it all depends on the CMs you get -- it is possible to put a child in a specific group, although I'm not sure if they'll just do it on request.

My sister and her family were there last month, and had made a pre-ropedrop H&V breakfast reservation for the sole purpose of ensuring that my 5-year-old nephew could get signed up for Jedi Training. He'd done nothing for the previous year but talk about how when he went to WDW for the first time he'd get to "fight Darth Vader," but when the magic moment came, he ended up getting shuffled down to fight the Seventh Sister. He was so visibly distraught about it after the show (crying like his heart was broken, apparently) that a CM spoke to him and, after finding out that he'd been looking forward to it for so long, kindly offered to sign him up for a different show on a different day, with a special note on that slot that he was to fight Darth Vader specifically. My sister was touched but embarrassed by the gesture (she does not want to be "that Mom"), but when they came back a couple of days later, his name was on the schedule as promised, and the CMs working that day made sure he was placed in the Darth Vader group.

So to make a short story long... it can be done, although it might not be routine. A polite and humble request, and a moving backstory, can't hurt. :)

I am planning a surprise trip to WDW this September for my two, 8 & 10. I promised them 2-3 years and this will actually year 1. I am hoping to keep this a surprise for as long as I can even if is when we arrive at WDW, but will have to see. Both my of them are huge Star Wars fans. This is something they both have spoken about doing and very high on my list of things to do. Planning on spending the day at HS doing all of the Star Wars things. My son will also be turning 11 while we are there so thinking this will be the day we will be at HS.

As suggested in an earlier post, we had breakfast at H&V last week (Fri April 15) so we could eat and line up for Jedi signup.

My DH noticed "the running of the bulls" while we were eating (so approx 8:30, 8:40am? -- park opening). I grabbed the kids and we lined up for Jedi signup, we were probably about 25-30 spots back in line (with some spots having multiple kids).

When we got to the actual signup tables, the next available shows were 11:10am (two spots left) and 11:40am. (I'm assuming shows later than 11:40 still had plenty of spots available, but that's an assumption so take it for what it's worth.) Both of those show times worked for us, so we were in great shape.

If you have more than one kid participating, try to have them in the same line/platform. My two got separated somehow, so DD7 was on the top platform fighting Vader and DS6 was on the lower platform fighting the Seventh Sister. The only hassle/snafu we had with that set up was we were only given one PhotoPass code to retrieve the pictures (DD7's). Once we got home, I called PhotoPass though and they were very helpful in giving me the lower platform code and I was able to claim DS6's pictures also.

Have lots of fun!!
I am planning on taking my two to the Jedi training. I have heard it can be a mad house. Hoping September it won't be as bad. I was not thinking of making any breakfast reservations as my two would rather sleep in and stay up late. But may have to make an exception for this one day.

I will also have to keep my eye out regarding the two lines. Would like to keep them together and sure they would both prefer Darth Vader to Seventh Sister.

I'm a little worried cause I had booked a breakfast there to be able to get a spot but I just noticed that they are opening earlier on the day I have our breakfast booked :( So I'm thinking it'll probably be booked before I get there. Our reservation is for 9:50am but on this particular day the park now opens at 8am.

Last week we got to studios 30 min before rope drop when the rope dropped we ran to get in line and we got the first training of the day. I thought things were going to be way worse.

I would go early sign up for the time that works best for you guys and go eat breakfast. I think things will work out just fine.
