There is a rumor that Universal is looking into doing a JAWS remake with Spielberg producing and possibly It's Andy Muschietti as director. It would be a new take on Peter Benchley's 1974 novel.

Oddly enough I have a problem with this. I read about this recently- and for the most part I am nonplussed by the greed of Hollywood. But this is kind of like remaking "Citizen Kane" in my eyes. ARguably "Jaws" is one of the best films ever made. While there are many competent directors out there that could do a wonderful job, the appeal of this movie is the legend surrounding it's production and how Spielberg gamed Universal into allowing him to finish it. I think it would lose some of the appeal and charm if it were to be remade with a gigantic budget and thoughtful production design. Necessity is the mother of invention and that certainly was the case with the original "Jaws." Free reign and a killer budget would sink this movie before it was even released on Amity Island's beaches.
