The new version was openned in 1993 I believe... there's videos online of the original... the big differences were this...

When you come out of the boat house, instead of JAWS coming up on the side of the boat, he actually 'bites' the boat and spins you around in a 360 while still biting the boat... then at the end instead of being electricuted he was blown up into a bunch of tiny bits in an underwater explosion complete with red water and chunky bits... I'll try and find the video on my computer and put it on a server...

Well the version I went on in March 2005 didn't have that stuff... the part I'm confused about is someone said it was closed for 2 years and just re-opened. But I was on it last year?!?!? explain please!

oh and by the way the part with jaws spinning the boat and having the water turn red sounds much better then the version I saw last year.

I went to Universal the 1st year it opened and to IoA for a private corporate party. I think the place is pretty cool but I can't help but feel guilty going.I feel like I SHOULD be spending my time at Disney, I am going this year to IoA to take my son to Dr. Seuss land.He loves the movie cat in the hat.

]a (inmho) poorly-themed indoor roller coaster based on an original 80s hair band (Aerosmith)

Actually, Aerosmith is an original 70's rock band which then morphed into a 80's hair band and then a 90's pop-rock band.

So? I really don 't care. I went to IOA and I really didn't care for it as much as I did Disney. My dad likes Universal so we might have to go this year. I'll just make it horrible for him. :king:

Jaws, Twister and Earthquake are the only dissapointing things at Universal, everything else is really well done, but I forgot according to most of you Universal is just some dump down the road from heaven and will never be given a other chance.
What are you talking about, Twister is pretty sweet. Or atleast it was 7 years ago...

It was basically the same ride, but the shark that attacks the boat and spins you in a 360 was SOOO awesome. It actually looked real, unlike the plastic shark heads they have popping up like underwater gophers in the current version of the attraction. You can ride all versions of the ride, including the 1990 version (with a very good shot of the shark causing the 360 turn) at:

jaws was a fun ride.. only thing i really remember about it was getting blasted with the heat from the fire.. mix that in with the 90+ degree temps in the summer, makes for a great mix lol..

Universal opened June 7, 1990... JAWS had the extremely technical 360 spin at this time but then closed shortly there-after... it re-openned in 1993 (or sometime around then) with the current version... the latest rehab was to repaint everything, fix some effects, and put freshly painted sharks in the water...

Hmph, and I like Twister too. Earthquake is no good. 30 minutes of preshow then 60 seconds on the subway.

Noooooo. You got it all wrong:brick: , the preshow IS the show. Then the little subway ride that follow is just a postshow!

Jaws is an incredible ride and the new revamp is enough to get me to schedule a trip to USF next time I'm in town - and I haven't even been there to see The Mummy yet. I saw some pics elsewhere of the new gore and such on the sharks, and descriptions of the enhanced effects - and I'm sold.

What I love about Jaws is that, for all intents and purposes, it's "real". There really is a two-ton shark feet away from you, and the overall creepy feeling all the mechanics under the water produce make it a very fun ride.

I'm so glad they put the money into it to get it refurbed - hopefully it means it won't be going anywhere soon.

I would imagine Jaws is here to stay for a while. Someone mentioned this somewhere, but can you imagine the cost of tearing Jaws appart to build a new attractions, if you havent seen it from the air it is massive.

What would the point of Amity be without JAWS?
Good point. If they ever wanted to replace Jaws with a new ride, they really would have to retheme the entire Amity area, unless they can figure out something new that still fits into that northeastern, New England style.

Now I'm trying to think up stuff that would fit in there. Geez, now I'm not gonna get anything done today. Thanks a lot, man.
