Trip Report Jasmine Rice...(Hold the Aladdin) - January 2018 Trip Report

When: January 15-18, 2018
Where: Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Walt Disney World

Who? @MonorailRed and myself

Let's begin!

The Wilderness Lodge is one of our favorite resorts on property and a bucket list resort for a long time, and fortunately were able to snag a good rate in January and had some time off as well. A perfect storm to get 3 nights at the Lodge. Magic Kingdom area is also our favorite location. I hadn't stayed at a resort in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area in 10 years and Red even longer - so we were very excited to begin the trip!

DAY 1- Morning
We requested an early check-in because my flight got in early that day. Overall, Check-in was extremely quick and easy, and we were given our room assignments, to our shock was in the main lobby!!

We were expecting to hoof it down one of the branching legs of the resort - but this location was a prime spot that offered us a great national parks inspired view to step out into.

Plenty of seating and and scenery to look at, we could spend a whole day talking about the detail and design of the Wilderness Lodge - but we've got a lot to cover on the 3 day trip...

So sit back, relax, and enjoy this picture journey through the trip! More to come!

Following along! We were there January 15-20!
I love the pulled pork nachos at Captain Cooks, so good choice!
Can’t wait to hear all about Skipper Canteen!
Oh awesome! Those nachos are the best:hungry:

And thanks - coming up tonight! I'll try to list some of the favorite jokes and puns. Coming to our table after delivering the food and saying 'Safari so good?' -- stuff like that;)

DAY 2 - Afternoon Part 2
Where? Skipper Canteen

First time at the Skipper Canteen for both of us on this trip

Went in not knowing what to expect in terms of how much of the Jungle Cruise would meander over across the street to the Skipper Canteen...and we quickly found out -- it's basically the Jungle Cruise ;)

Was interested in sitting in the S.E.A. room just because of my fascination with the Society of Explorers and Adventures ongoing storyline in the Disney Parks, but luckily it was on the way to the restrooms haha so I was able to walk through it

Starting with the food -- I got the Char Siu Pork and @MonorailRed got the "Tastes like Chicken...Because it is"

And naturally the backside of the menu was....

The atmosphere in Skipper Canteen at least where we were sitting was modestly quiet, no loud screaming like at Whispering Canyon...but you couldn't hear a pin drop like at Victoria and Alberts or something.

For in-park dining too, which for us at least, tends to be a bit less quality than the resort dining - this is up there in terms of one of the better dining experiences in the Magic Kingdom.

And the jokes -- we had a waitress who came to the table and rattled off so many puns and jokes in one shot that sometimes we were just sitting there confused trying to remember...wait, what did she just say? :p

Some of the more memorable ones:

"A lot at steak salad, it's really good don't make a mis-steak"

"What would you like to drink?"
"I'll have a coke please"
"Ok, one dirty burger water for you"

"My therapist says I need friends"
...
*silence* (this was after rattling off the menu, still processing)
......
"Ok I see how it is..."

*someone drops food at the table next to us*
"You know you're sitting in the mess hall -- it doesn't mean you have to make a mess"

*passes the plates out for dinner, but keeps mine*
Okay...oh, dinner for one, sir you don't want this? I'll take it back, no problem!"

*comes back to check on the table*
"Safari so good?"

*gives MagicBand to pay the bill*
*runs off with it*
"Alright I'm gonna go shopping thanks so much I'll be back in 3 hours bye!"

:hilarious:

All in all -- I think the waiter or waitress adds to the experience there. We got a really good one, but I did notice others not as into the theatrics as she was, maybe they had more deadpan humor who knows.

So the S.E.A. room was cool! If/when we go back I wonder if you go at an earlier time you can request it or maybe wait for it somehow, because when you go back there it's even more quiet than it was in the atrium.

And I did notice on one of the newpaper clippings they mentioned Lord Henry Mystic -- Mystic Manor connection! Woo!

Overall -- I'd give it a 9/10 -- great experience...and then after that we immediately went for our fastpass to the Jungle Cruise so we got a double dosing of puns those few hours.

The skipper there was also in rare form...screaming out the boat to the AA hippos, yelling at Trader Sam, and then telling us at the end that we are all outstanding, but he needs us out standing on the dock. :hilarious:

Will elaborate more on the evening in the next installment! :)
