January 2009 - Help please

Hello...new here. We are planning a trip to WDW for Jan. 2009. We have been to WDW several times, but never in Jan. We either want to go jan 3 to Jan 10 or Jan 10 to Jan 17. After reading other posts, my concern with my first set of dates is the WDW marathon. My second choice runs into MLK weekend. Which week should have lighter crowds?

Ive been to disney 2x in Jan and loved it. We always go the last week of Jan and the crowds arent bad, last year our longest wait was 120min for soarin on EMH. I have heard that MLK weekend can be crazy, not sure about the marathon but if you plan to go from sun to sat on the first week than maybe only the last day will be crazy crowed. Good Luck!!

We are arriving on January l0th through the 17th. Planned it so we'd head home before the holiday itself. Holiday weekends are busy. I hope the weather will be as nice as February is. (We usually go in February and we wear shorts then.)

I would pick the marathon over MLK although when I was there in 2007 (for both events) I didn't really notice crazy crowds. The only time it felt crowded was at AK during the marathon because some of the paths were closed / narrowed for the runners. The queues we're still pretty short though (don't think I waited longer than 20mins for anything and fastpasses were readily available)

Try to avoid the MLK weekend. It's really busy. Been there, done that! But you should be okay if you go right after it or just before. It starts to get busy the Thursday before from my experiences. I love WDW (and my birthday is around the same time), but it is a little too crazy then for my taste.

I agree. We arrived Saturday of Marathon weekend, but didn't go to a park until Sunday this year. Not crowded at all! But by Friday, which was the beginning of MLK weekend ( I think), it was starting to get crowded, especially at MK.
