January 2006 Trip...

Upcoming trip - Ideas needed!

Greetings

My family and I are planning a (very) belated graduation trip for January 2006.
I will be turning 19 while we are down there. We have been there for my birthday before, however, these were always short trips and going on 10 years ago, so I don't remember much. Also, we will have my 21-year-old boyfriend with us, and it will be his second trip.

In regards to this, are there any tips people have about January trips?
What should we do in the evenings, since the parks close early? We are definately planning on seeing La Nouba one night.
Also, is Timekeeper open, and is there a possibility it will be open in January?

Thank you in advance, all help is appreciated

Thank you both for your responses :)

I remember the weather in January - it's still wonderful compared to what I'll be leaving up here - blizzards and icy roads.

Hook - When is your birthday in January? Mine is the 23rd :)

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated

We honeymooned at WDW this past January. If you've never been, you should go to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. It's a lot of fun. There are so many things you can do a night. Be sure to take advantage of the extended hours after park hours. When we didn't have much to do on some nights, we would go to downtown disney or the boardwalk. Another neat thing to do is visit some of the other resorts. They are amazing. It really put us in conflict though. Now we can't decide where we want to stay next time we come!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Just what/where is the boardwalk? I have heard all about it between people's posts and the behind the scenes shows, but I have never seen it. I've heard that some of the restaraunts there are excellent.

Thanks :)

The boardwalk is part of the Disney's Boardwalk Inn Resort and Villas, located in the Epcot Resort Area. The entertainment and dining areas are open to the public. You can visit by leaving Epcot through the International Gateway (between United Kingdom and France) or by taking Disney's transportation or your own transportation to the resort hotel itself.

The Boardwalk features:
Table Service Restaurants:
Big River Grille and Brewing Works
ESPN Club
Flying Fish Café
Spoodles

Counter Service Quite Bites:
BoardWalk Joe's
BoardWalk Bakery
Seashore Sweets

Night Clubs:
Atlantic Dance Club
Jellyrolls Piano Bar

As well as some street entertainment and midway style games.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

January is a great time to go. Lower crowds. Cooler temps.

Things to watch for: try and avoid MLK weekend. It is a little busy that weekend. Also, check out www.varsity.com. The National Cheerleading competitions are usually held during 3 or 4 weekends in Jan/Feb. They don't really impact parks too,too much. However, they generally stay in the AS/Pop/CBR resorts and they can get noisy.

Nighttime options:

Epcot--World Showcase is the latest park open at 9pm. Try and schedule your time to end up there a few nights.

If you end up with the Plus options, you can head to Disney Quest. It is generally open til 11 or 12.

Evening Magic Hours: Magic Kingdom is usually the best deal. It has the most attractions open so it disperses the crowds more. But during the low season, evening magic hours may not be that busy. When we went to MK last January, it was empty.

The Boardwalk is nice, but as far as a full night of fun, especially if you're not 21, would be stretching it. Great eats though. Touring all the resorts would be fun as well....

If you have any more ???? let me know

Thanks for all of the ideas. I'm the dad in the Sailor Mouse household. We had discussed doing Hoop de Doo and will probably take in La Nouba too. I had not thought of touring the other resorts but think it might be cool to do that as well as a little restaraunt hopping in the evening.

BIG question - DW and I were thinking of taking a little anniversary trip in October and were considering purchasing AP's for that trip but mainly with January in mind. Are AP room discounts usually available in January? Would we be able to get a discount on MYW admissions for Sailor Mouse and her friend? With the new AP changes I see on the boards I am confused and wondering if it is worth buying the AP's anymore. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :D :D

I'll be happy to answer your questions...

First, marketing normally has a passholder offer going for most of the year, but the discount will vary by offer. Normally the offers are released for only a few months out. The passholder "best rate" offer does not change this. You now have an option to either call 407-W-DISNEY or go online to book your vacation. The online "best rate" offer will be a deeper discount then you would get by phone, but you will need to accept the changes in payment, modification and cancellation policies. As always, either way this is not a set discount rate, but a marketing offer with a limited number of rooms available per night, per resort, per room type, and is subject to availibility of the discounted rooms for the dates of your travel.

To answer your second question, currently Annual Passholders do not get discounts on the purchase of Magic Your Way tickets for freinds and family. Discounts are available for the Passholders themselves for:

AMC Theatres Pleasure Island 24
Receive $2 off adult evening admission price seven days a week after 6:00 p.m. Offer is valid for the Passholder only and not valid with any other offer or discount.

Disney's Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course and Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course
Get a 50% discount for the Passholder and up to three guests.

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Parks
Enjoy a $4 discount off regular admission price for Guests ages 10 and older and $3 discount for Guests ages 3-9. Discount available for Passholder and up to three Guests per visit.

DisneyQuest® Indoor Interactive Theme Park
Receive a $4 discount off regular admission price for Guests ages 10 and older and $3 discount for Guests ages 3-9. Discount available for Passholder and up to three Guests per visit.

Downtown Disney® Pleasure Island
Enjoy a $4 discount off regular admission price for Guests ages 10 and older and $3 discount for Guests ages 3-9. Discount available for Passholder and up to three Guests per visit.

Specially Ticketed Events at the Magic Kingdom Park
Receive a 25% discount off from the "gate" admission price for the following special ticket events at the Magic Kingdom Park:

Night of Joy (Sept 09, 10)
Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party (Sept 30, Oct 02, 06, 20, 23, 25 only)
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (Nov 29, Dec 01, 04, 13 only)

Discount is only available on the above selected nights, based on a limited availability, and does not apply to "Advance Sales" admission price for these special ticket events. The Passholder may purchase up to a total of four discount tickets. The advance purchase of these tickets is highly recommended as these events often sell out. Advance Tickets are sold on a will call bases to validate discount. Passholder must show a valid pass at Guest Relations / Will Call Window to claim tickets. Call 1-407-W-DISNEY to purchase in advance.

*To enjoy these 2005 benefits, you must present your valid Annual, Premium, or Seasonal Pass at the time of purchase, booking, and/or redemption of any offer. Offers may not be combined with any other certificate, offer or discount. Offers apply to the Passholder only, unless otherwise noted. Offers are subject to change without notice and are subject to availability. 2005 Passholder benefits expire on January 1, 2006. Updated benefits will be available for all valid Passholders on January 2, 2006. Certain restrictions may apply. Blockout dates may apply. Is anyone really reading all of this? This information is also available at Disneyworld.com/passholder.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

If you are going for two different trips, I would recommend the AP's. Not only are the room discounts extremely generous, but the price of the AP is probably not going to be much more than getting seperate tickets each time. A great AP benefit recently added is the option to join the Disney Dining Experience for only $50 (usually $75 and only available to FL residents). This club gives you 20% off all meals (including alcohol) at almost every table service restaraunt at the parks. Most Downtown Disney restaraunts are not included, as they are not run by Disney. You can find a list of participating restaraunts at allears.net. With the combined savings on room rates and dining, I think the APs are a GREAT deal. This of course depends on your perspective. If you don't eat out a lot at table service places, you won't save as much. But even without the DDE, the room discounts for both of your trips will be well worth the expense.

As for going in January, be prepared for anything. I've been several times in January and the weather has gone from freezing rain to mid 70s. Pack well.
The hours really have never been a huge problem for us. You just need to plan right. If you schedule later meals outside of the parks, or at Epcot, you can usually end the night with it. I recommend dining at resorts and World Showcase often. The fact that these places contain 99% of the best restaraunts on property anyways makes that an easy concession for me to handle in planning. I would recommend trying to stay at one of the Epcot resorts. Not only do they have lots of things to do at night (street performers, night clubs, sports bar, mini golf, etc), but they are also within walking distance to the park open latest, Epcot (as well as MGM). For years we would only stay at Magic Kingdom resorts, and changing to an Epcot was tough, but once we did we could never stand to stay anywhere else.

Another good option might be Port Orleans as it is connected via waterways to Downtown Disney which gives you another place to party after hours that is connected to your resort. I've stayed at every Epcot hotel as well as Port Orleans and I prefer the Epcot area (especially the Yacht/Beach and the Boardwalk), but Port Orleans has its own charms and is a good choice if you're on a budget (especially with the deep discounts from the AP rates). It offers much less ammenities than the Epcot area, but you get what you pay for, and for what it is (a moderately priced hotel vs a deluxe resort) it is very nice.

we went in february one time and had similar problems with the parks closing early. if you plan to eat and walk around after the parks close, downtown disney is perfect. there are great restraunts & tons of shopping & of course my favorite - Disney Quest!!! also eating at & exploring other resorts is always tons of fun. i have heard that AKL does bedtime stories with hot chocolate by the fire place. good luck & have tons of fun
