It's tough losing Annual Passes

My family had Annual Passes the past three years. My dad decided not to renew this year though. It's been three months and i'm already having withdrawals! If I get what I want for my birthday though, I'll be back sooner than planned :)

i've had an annual pass for about 8 years now..the thing that gets me is why Disney requires the money "up front". For example, several other theme parks allow payments. My wife and i both have annual passes...when we have to renew them, that's like almost $600 at on time!!! I've never begrudged the money and we certainly get our money's worth, but i don't usually have $600 just lying around! Wouldn't it be better if you could buy them with a monthly installment? Heck, i would pay $100/month for 3 months to get my pass...or even if I payed $30 month! That would be great...sure that amounts to an extra $60/year, but it'd be worth it to me to not have to shell out all that money at once...yes...i'm on a soapbox...my pass expires in 11 day!!! :( :(

That's the thing that kept us from renewing basically. Three passes aren't cheap. We have the Sea World passes still, and that's like 12 bucks a month. If Disney would allow monthly payments, I believe they would see a lot more people purchasing Seasonal and Annual Passes. They still make the same amount of money off the pass, just over a longer amount of time.

I had an annual pass for a year. I really wanted to renew it, but when the time rolled around, I just couldn't afford it. If I ever get ahold of an extra $300 somtime though, I definitely want to get one again.

Oh yeah.. and Universal does the pay by the month annual pass thing too. A couple friends of mine do that and they say it's very convenient.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but couldn't you put $25 away each month so that when it is time to renew you have the $300 ready?

I do like the payment plans the other parks are offering, but I also like to pay for my pass all at once and then not have to worry about it.

I'm with Stitch79. I love my AP. I find it easy to put aside my daily $1 to make it easier to pay for my pass. Just takes a little willpower, but if you truly love WDW it's easy.

Yes, but I think that Disney would have a lot more takers if they made it a little easier for some of us to afford. If there was a payment plan, I would definately by passes.

Honestly, I see it as very bad planning on your part if you can't put aside a dollar a day for an AP. Somethin's just not right. LOL

Just a thought. Wouldn't putting the payment on a credit card be the same thing. Split the payment up to what works for you or your family.

If I don't get at least 3 or 4 offers for credit cards every week. Get a card and only use it for the annual passes.

Kind of hard to do when you don't make alot of money and literally every cent you make go towards bills/groceries/gas. I took a big pay cut when I took my current job just so I could have at least some money coming in until I find a better paying job. So I really can't afford to even put $1 a day away to save for Disney.

And I know I'm not the only one who's in this type of situation. I just hope a good paying job comes along soon so I can get out of this financial rut and can start having fun again. Right now I only get to do extra things because a friend might take pity and pay my way just so I'm not sitting home alone all the time.

great...put a dollar away every day for a disney pass...makes sense (cents?)....so in a year i'll have enough to buy a pass...the question is....how does that help me NOW????

besides, its not practical...how many of us do that...technically speaking...if that worked, then there'd be no finance company. Why do we finance cars? couldn't we put away $10/day for 4-5 years and then just buy the car outright? What happens two years in when you need some cash for soemthing (health, bills, food, etc..)? you start using the "car" fund!

as for using a credit card..sure...but has anyone heard of finance charges? spend $300 on a pass, every month pay $30, but in the meantime, your finance charges on unpaid balances make it more like $500!! (maybe extreme, but you get my point).

Retailers use credit (department stores, gas stations, home depot, etc..) so why can't disney just have the option of paying it off little by little??

on a happier note, my wife and i decided to go to disney tomorrow!!! (ok..its after midnight...today!!!!) we'll be staying the weekend at POR!! :sohappy:

but maybe i should have just saved the money to renew my pass:lookaroun NOT!!!!:p

How do monthly payments make it "easier"? What's the difference if you send money each month to Disney or you just set it aside at home? Either way, you are going to be out that amount of money each month. :brick:

So, if you can't afford to set aside a little money each month to save up for an AP, then how would you pay monthly payments to Disney for one? I don't understand your argument.

my argument is that it just hurts less to pay 30/month than to sit down and write a check for 300!! (or 600 for two!). Yes, i understand that its the same thing..but think about it:

Person #1: "so how much did your annual passes cost?"
Me: "$600!!!!
Person #1: "HOLY COW!!! That's alot of money!"

or

Person #1: "so how much did your annual passes cost?"
Me: "only $60 a month!"
Person #1: "gee..that's not bad at all!"

see..its all in the mind. Like in "Jaws" You yell baracuda and everyone says 'huh? what?....you yell "SHARK" and we have a panic!

Oh, and by the way, i don't actually own a red shirt..but my wife is purposely wearing her red shirts for the weekend...she thinks it will be "fun"

Can't wait to see what happens...right now we're discussing where to eat before illuminations! i'm so excited! :sohappy:
