It's time for Disney to re-invent it's original characters to today's youth.

I do really wish they'd show the classics again on TV. I loved those old cartoons as a kid, and I've never seen a child not sit down to watch 'em. they have a transcendant appeal.

Today's kids connect more, I think, with characters like Buzz, like Stitch, etc. they're the new wave of classics. while I think everyone knows who Donald Duck is, a lot of younger kids may not be able to name a single character trait he has.

as far as Mickey's Philharmagic - it's a great show, but were Truth-In-Titling laws in effect, it would be Donald's Philharmagic.... Mickey appears for, what, 30 seconds total?

oh well. I always liked Donald better anyway. go Donald! :D

speaking of 're-inventing' the Disney characters... sometime check out this absurd little thing they have in the Tomorrowland Arcade called "Mickey's Rave". it's a dancing game and if you've ever wanted to see Chip n' Dale decked out as ravers, well.... it's kind of amusing and kind of appaling.

Finally youthful words of wisdom. Im only 24 myself and feel that those characters are pretty much ending with my generation.

I agree with a previous poster, no ride has Mickey as the head honcho. They need a sit down ride with him.

One previous poster said it doesnt need to happen because of "Raper Mickey" or crack addict goofey? What's that about? That's the dumbest most rediculous thing I've heard.

What's going to happen when today's kids one day are CEO of that park? They will not care about Mickey, sure they'll know him but he will not be the centerpiece of Disney World and therefore the parks will have slipped further away from Walt than they ever have.

They need to bring Mickey Back!

BRING MICKEY BACK! BRING MICKEY BACK!

RAPER MICKEY??? Please tell me you meant RAPPER mickey

Unless you grew up in Southern California, you probably don't remember this show. It was called KCAL Kids. It was these three kids that would have adventures in Disneyland, and there would be old Disney cartoons interspersed. Then when Toontown opened, the show became Toontown Kids. They would do stuff in Toontown, and occasionally the rest of the park. And the crazy mishaps they would get in would remind them about Mickey and the gang. Those two shows were really cool, and I wish they were still around. Anyone else in So Cal remember those?

no, the post was originally made by mkepcotmgmak and he said "raper".

However, HE may have meant Rapper, who knows.

MICKEY!

And how about Kingdom Hearts?

We have ALOT of Mickey all around us, just not over-done either.

I guess it would be cool to see a movie done with the Fab Five. Maybe in a few years after Philharmagic is around for a while.

And btw...the reason it's called MICKEY's Philharmagic is because it is HIS, but Donald (as always) creates mischief and that is the basis for the plot of the show. Don't forget that it's still MICKEY'S PHILHARMAGIC just like it's MICKEY'S PARKS and MICKEY'S MOVIES and MICKEY'S COMPANY!!! :sohappy:

I'm from Florida, but one of the stations over here got "Toontown Kids" syndicated at 5:30 or 6 am. I often wonder if kids really get up that early to watch cartoons.

Toontown Kids used to come on at like 9am here, so I never got to watch it unless it was a day off, or summer vacation. KCAL Kids used to come on at 7am, though, so I used to watch that before i went to school. Those shows should be in the Disney Treasures collection! lol:p

thats what i saw!
i saw KCAL kids on one early morning on vault disney a few years back. it was a bunch of retro kids running around doing weird things in disneyland, but i didnt know the show name.

as far as reinventing the original characters goes, i myself, am merely 14, and i just turned 14 thursday, but i am an avid disney fan. making mickey and the gang more like modern cartoons would be a huge mistake. the state of our cartoons is in a slump. channels like nick and cartoon network started putting out cheap fast cartoons a few years ago, and disneys comeback was... trying to become like them! they started spitting out cheap cartoon series and spinoffs of movies every month. then low and behold, a few years ago i heard of a new channel called toondisney, my first thought was "alright, finally disney will show their classic cartoons again at reasonable times!". not so! toondisney is mainly a graveyard for their cheap cartoon series that didnt make it on the disney channel or abc. they show donalds quack attack at around 5 am. every once and a while at the most, and that is not good. on further note, the direct to video sequels are also just as bad as or worse than the cheap cartoons.

i myself think that bringing back the classic cartoons would be a great idea, but unfortunately the youth of america has been fed the cheap modern cartoon so much, that it is not likely for them to accept the old classic cartoons. in conclusion i think disney should bring back the old cartoons by all means, but i just dont think the youth of america will accept them.

The Sequel Mistake

OISleep...I agree with you 110% on the issue of the sequels. All these movies being made by DTV are really huring Disney's name MAJORLY! What's sad about it is that Feature Animation could have done such a great job with sequels to movies like Peter Pan, Lion King, Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, etc. I refuse to buy them and if anyone brought them aboard my ship (The Black Pearl) I'd have them walk off the plank!
