It's Gonna be Torture!

Okay, so I am going to be staying with my DS a few nights at the Grand Floridian starting Thursday while she is there for a conference. We extended the stay with the fantastic rate they were able to book at. It is going to be torture though because we are resident seasonal passholders and the summer season is not over (blacked out) until Aug. 17, so we cannot get into the parks. Being that close to MK and not going in is going to be tough, but I just wanted to be able to stay at the GF. We did this last year at the Yacht Club also, but it had a much better pool and was next to the Boardwalk and a few things to do. We are going to take a side trip to SeaWorld, and watching Wishes and the water parade from our room or the boat dock, but do you all have any other suggestions on something to do at the resort. I guess I will have plenty of time to soak in all the GF since I can't go to the parks.

Try some of these things to have some Disney fun:
  1. Take the bus to Downtown Disney and visit the shops.
  2. Take the bus from Downtown Disney to Boardwalk and visit the things you liked to do there last time.
  3. Ride the full monorail loop and visit the other MK resorts and have a snack and enjoy the atmosphere.
  4. Ride the full monorail loop over and back to Epcot and enjoy the ride.
  5. Try the Fantasia Miniature Golf Course over by the Swan/Dolphin hotels.
  6. Check and see if your conference has discounted half-day passes that you can by as cheaply as paying to go to Seaworld.
I know it isn't the same thing as being in the parks, but at least you get to enjoy some of the Disney magic that is everywhere around the resort!

We need time for things to happen.
It's situations like this that coined phrases like
"So close yet so far away"
or the less eloquent
"That sorta totally sux"

I feel for you, but I think Wishes and Water Pagent are pretty good ways to pass time. Do you have a couple of meals planned? Tool around on the monorail and visit the Contemporary and Poly (grab a dole whip).

Well it doesn't totally suck, but it will hurt a bit. My wife is a big dole whip fan and we will be hitting Captain Cooks for one (or more). I just wish they would have the orange vanilla flavor at the Poly, as I am not a pineapple fan. They do offer after 4 pm passes for conference goers, but they are not that economical at $55 apiece. We already have SeaWorld passes so that was the cheaper plan anyway. We are gonna make the most out of the trip and enjoy some things we might usually pass up.

I feel your pain! My company is holding a meeting at Disney in October. We will be staying at Boardwalk. They are actually purchasing one tickets for us.However the fist 4 days will be painful to be on Disney property and sitting n meetings. Then again it is better then sitting in meetings in Atlanta! Since I live in Ga I am extending the trip 4 more days and get a really awesome rate on the room!!!

Oh just go to the parks anyway--that close and not go man I couldn't do it

DO IT. DO IT. DO IT. You know you will regret it if you don't. When you return home you will be banging your head against the wall thinking about all you could have done.

I say you only go around once, spring for it, you're on (somewhat of a) vacation! I would! Enjoy! Let us know what you wind up doing :)

There's more to do at WDW than just the parks. Sit by the pool, relax, get a massage, rent a boat, visit the other resorts, go horseback riding, do the backstage tours that don't require admission, go to a water park..... I could go on.
