As I posted in this thread, after I was recently laid off from my job is SC, my wife & I & our son moved to Orlando, in large part to be close to Disney
The fact that there are far more IT jobs here than where we lived in SC didn’t hurt either.
Our two daughters & their families were ready for a change too, so moved to the Orlando area as well.
My wife, both daughters, one son-in-law & our son applied to Disney & so far, my wife, one daughter & one son-in-law have been successful in gaining PT hourly employment with Disney. That means park access for pretty much everyone![Smile :) :)](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png)
My son is a programmer & was applying for a professional position that it turns out he was over qualified for. He’s since accepted a position with another local company.
I think we were lucky with timing, since I believe that until recently, it’s been rather difficult to get a position with Disney, even PT hourly.
My daughter went to Traditions last week & just started training at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian. She will be a “Seater”, which I guess is like a hostess.
Like our daughter, my wife completed her Disney application on-line & about a week later received an email saying she was selected to take on on-line interview. This “interview” was basically a pre-employment test of the personality profile variety. The test must be automatically graded, because when she finished it, the next page was to schedule an in-person interview at the Disney Casting Center.
She was scheduled for her interview last Wednesday & while she would like to ultimately be a server, Disney generally doesn’t hire servers directly, positions are filled from within. The interviewer offered a choice of three positions, one of which was something my wife feels she will enjoy very much.
I can say that having limited availability severely limits your options. Initially my wife wanted days only & was told there wasn’t anything currently available, but when she opened up to full availability, that’s when the interviewer offered the three choices.
She was scheduled to come back the same day for processing, which included fingerprinting, etc. She’s scheduled for Traditions January 5th.
Our other daughter’s husband applied for security, having been a police officer in another state before moving. He’s scheduled to start work in early February.
It turns out that we live almost across the street from the Disney Cast Member lake & recreation area, so that will be a wonderful benefit. My daughter has children, so the child care available at the YMCA Family centers will be a boon for them.
I’ve wanted to work for Disney myself for many years, so I may even apply for an IT position![Smile :) :)](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png)
My wife & daughter are VERY excited to work for Disney & Pixie Dust seems to have infused our homes. We can’t wait to see Disney in its Christmas splendor.
