ISTCrew's First Day Of School (2004 Edition)

Well, I just thought I'd fill y'all in on my first day of school. It was CRAZY today. If you remember, last year when I did this, I was really bummed. I had every class in a portable, and didn't have lunch or any classes with anyone else I knew.

This year however, I was very grateful. Tifani and I got first period together, and 15 out of the 16 people in the group I hang with all have lunch together (including me). I got all the classes I want, and all of them, except 2 are in buildings. The day did not go without a hitch though...

The whole group (16 of us) had made arrangements over the phone to meet in a certain spot in the morning before school started. Well, only 5 of us showed up. I went to homeroom, got my schedule, and went back to the meeting spot. I finally found Tifani, who told me that her INSANE bus driver (more on that later) made her late. So, since Tifani and I had first period together, we decided to walk together. Our schedule said building "99" which I KNEW meant portable. Tifani however dragged me all the way to these buildings. We ended up in the wrong place, and the dean found both of us (we were 15 minutes late at this point). The dean "golf-carted" ... In a golf cart lol(I sat up front while Tifani hung on the back). So we got in ou class and that was that.

The day went fine, but trying to go home was another hassle.

I could not, for the life of me, find my bus. I got tired of looking for it, so I went on Tifani's bus to go over to her house. Her bus driver, like I said earlier, was INSANE. She beeped at every car, and even got out of the bus to yell at a handicapped driver! It was crazy.

Anyway, that was my day, and I just thought I would share that I am much happier this year. A (WDW) Update might be up Saturday night. :D

Another adventure! You two should seriously consider making a film/documentary.

This sounds FAR different from what I read last year. . . and that's awesome.

I'd rather you be at school, and I be at the beach on summer vacation. :animwink:

At least your first day of school did not find you dressed in the same 80s attire as your teacher and having lunch in a phone booth b/c your best friend Kimmy Gibler did not have lunch with you ala DJ Tanner's horrible first day of school.
:p

I forgot how much school sucked! Thanks IST for that trip down memory lane. I never slept the night before my 1st day of school. PORTABLES ARE EVIL TORTURE CHAMBERS. They started using them when I was in middle school and by the time I graduated from high school in 94 there were at least 20 of them on Campus, NOW THERE'S AT LEAST 40!!The education board in Florida really need to do something about the rapid population growth. To anyone who doesn't know what a portable is its basically a trailor. August-a room with 30 kids in it-bad insulation- underpowered A/C units. They can be unimaginably hot and humid. Plus, they all smell-kind of a carpet glue/mildew smell. Good luck Patrick.

Glad your first day back wasn't so bad.

I took my daughter to registration Weds and was surprised to find out that she would NOT have classes in the trailers this year. Shocked is more like it. During her first two yrs, the only class she had inside was orchestra. I had no idea anything exsisted beyond the orchestra room.

My mom is a 1st grade teacher and works in a portable. She loves it. The princaple doesn't walk in the class and she has air conditioning because of the Long Island Expressway outside. She also has a little bathroom in there, that makes her happy.

Gosh, school starts early in Florida! Public schools here don't go back until after Labor Day! But I'm glad your year started off well. You must go to an awfully big school if you couldn't find the right building! My high school was incredibly undersized for the number of students we had. We had 2000 students in a school originally built for 1000. I don't miss not being able to move in the hallways due to "student traffic" :) Anyway, hope you have a great school year - and I hope you still find time to go to DW and write great updates for all of those who can't visit very often

my school has 23 red portables and one white special portable...

imagine that with a stagered scedual because my school is over crowded enough.... at least i will have an much easier day.... it isn't hard to go around my school if you are going to certine rooms that are near the outside back doors... hehe

i have a great scedual.... (school starts tomorrow...) I get to be in the same room with the same teacher for 3 periods strait.... and i get 3 credits for it too...

I dont have a first period due to my duelemrolement with an online highschool... (if you live in FLA, you may want to check this school out... http://www.flvs.net it is an online highschool which can be easier for some people... you can access it anytime, anywhere.... great place.)

sorry for my bad plug... (FLA students get to enrole there for free...)

jaime_1234, where in VA do you live? I used to live in Herndon before I moved to Albany.

I don't live near Herndon at all - I live all the way towards the south-eastern tip of Virgina in the Hampton Roads area. But I do wish I was even further south...as in Florida :)
