Isn't the JC supposed to be corny?

My wife and I loooove the Jungle Cruise. While I do agree it does need to be updated we still really enjoy it. The very first time we rode it was during our honeymoon in 2005 and our Jungle Cruise Guide was a young lady from Hong Kong who was in training to work at the new park there. She was absolutely fantastic and hilarious and she kinda ruined it for us in a way because no other guide we have had since then has had anywhere near as much excitement and enthusiasm as she did. On the flip side, the last time we rode it the guide was incredibly unenthusiastic and she spoke in a very monotone and boring manner, you could tell she was bored and didn't want to be there. the guide adds tons to the Jungle Cruise in my opinion a good guide can make it an awesome experience.
By the way...didn't the Disneyland Jungle Cruise just have a refurb? What is the difference in it and our Disney World version?

I actually was on the drastically change JC bandwagon until last trip. I heard about going on at night and I convinced myfamily to go on it and it was 100 times better!

I think that it does need some upgrades and maybe a drastic reinvention like the additions made in the 60's after it was opened. The scenes like the poachers and others were added after the ride opened. As Walt said it would never be complete.:animwink:

If you want to see something incredible look at The Art of Disneyland book it shows concept art from Indiana Jones involving JC it's really cool to see what the Imagineers thought up to enhance it.

Which reminds me of homestarrunner.com's Strongbadian Riverquest Safariventure

If you've never watched this, be sure to wait till the end where he does a great impersonation of a bored guide.

As a skipper it's interesting to me that people find it so much better at night... the show scenes are actually a lot harder to see. I guess it comes down to 2 factors: short lines which means happier and more attentive guests; and the fact that the skips have worked all day and gradually start losing their mind, making for a funnier and more carefree spiel.

Anyway, count me as another vote for keeping the JC corny, but perhaps with some spiffy new effects and a lot of TLC. :D

We rode a couple years ago and had the same experience with a skipper from the same part of the world. The best part was when we came across the Rhino......As the skipper put it "Whine-O"......Talk about a boat load of laughter.

 I have to recomend to ride with Randele as your JC Guide .Ws there in Oct and he has the early Tom Hanks type of style .On A NSSHP Night with another skipper My 7 year old had he boat in stitches as he was telling the punch lines tro the jokes before the guy could deliver them the guide finally let him take over and as we were unloading the crew at the dock was asking why everyone was histerically laughing and the the skipper was speechless . My son ran of line and jumped back again in the same boat to take over again . When the passengers off the boat saw they they started jumping on too ,because they wanted to ride with my son again.

That is what makes it so special....the perspective of a 7 year old. Awesome!

If by "corny" you mean "educational", you are right on! There is so much to learn on this exotic safari ride. Unfortunately, sometimes you get stuck with a skipper who spends the entire trek telling jokes.
