Is there a database for actual Disney World paint color codes?

I'm in the process of selecting a paint color for my den, and I was wondering: does anyone know a place where you can find the HSL codes used for paint colors in the park? Things like the blue used on the parapets at Cinderella's Castle, or the yellow they paint the walls at Pecos Bill's- that sort of thing. This is the sort of uber-geek information that I assume someone's compiled somewhere.

To clarify, what I'm NOT looking for are the various commercial lines of "Disney" paint they've licensed over the years.

Also, I know that with a bit of effort I could replicate any particular color with photographs/scanning, but that's not really what I'm interested in.

I don't think this is something anyone has really thought of o_O It's sooo uber-geeky that you may be the first to think of it. I'm not sure if many people have stopped and thought 'I must have that lovely shade of Big Thunder brown for my kitchen' lol

I doubt anyone has posted the colours online though but good luck searching.

The only thing I can recall stumbling across was a long lengthy writeup on No-See-Um/Go Away green. Which of course I can't locate now. But I think that trying to match based off the original paint will be a difficult endeavor. Remember that pretty much all external paint is initially put on at a much brighter/stronger tone than they want it to be due to the elements. But as part of that article, I seem to recall that many times the paint is a shade custom mixed for that exact location. So a building right next door may have a slightly different shade.

This is the greatest query ever. I am now VERY interested in finding out the PMS colors or color codes for Disney properties. You should contact the folks at the DisneyParks blog (holla Jennifer Fickley-Baker) to see if they can do any digging on this.

Your quickest solution would be to bring a photo of the color you want to someplace like Lowe's where they can mix to match. Their Valspar paint always rates high in Consumer Reports tests - and has held up well on the walls in my house!

As my good friend and next door neighbor @NYwdwfan stated, color matching would be the way to go. Numbers are not really needed with the technology available to match the colors.

Well again, I'm not at all interested in color matching.
The point here is authenticity, not accuracy.

Richard Terpstra does a section on his blog called "The Wonderful World of Kuler" (Kuler being a color mixing tool from Adobe) in which he identifies the color palette's for many of the Disney attractions, you will have to look thru some of his older posts, but his spot colors are pretty accurate, and he is a stickler when it comes to identifying the fonts used at many of the disney attractions as well.

Hmm. Not exactly what I was looking for, but this is very interesting work.
Thanks for the link!

I've asked asked about this years ago when I was in the World. If you can make friends with some of the painters and ask nicely, they can get you a color sample and/or actually get you the info in a few days. My advice, make friends.

Depends on what you are painting. Disney uses automotive paint, Imron on some metal works like trains and MainSt. type vehicles. It used Dunn-Edwards for decades starting in Disneyland and continuing into Disneyworld, might not be the same quality but that paint is available commercially. What they use on areas that receive a great deal of wear is privately made for Disney and that information I have never seen released. Disney also uses Marine Paint on their vessels and some of their more difficult to maintain structures which is pricey. Most paint is oil based and boy it will make you thank God for the invention of Latex, yet it does wear better.

I paint a great deal, I always use Benjamin Moore rarely having to apply a second coat due to the quality and that makes up for the cost, about $55 a gallon. The paint store can identically match colors.

Remember you can't mix Latex and Oil based paints on a surface, they will not adhere to each other,

There is a department within operations that does track all of this infromation. That way they can match patch, fabric, surface treatments, etc if and when they have to.

Getting that information out of that department is a different story.

Sherwin Williams has a cool app where you can take a picture of whatever you want a paint color of and select that color from the picture. It then matches it up to one of their paints. Might help! :)

My fave color is 'John Hench Purple'.
This, with a nice aqua used in the same space together creates real magic for those of us who are serious old-school EPCOT geeks.
