Is the Wishes Dessert Party a Good Value?

No, I'm not mixing it up. I read about Wishes not having assigned seating anymore on another Disney board. People on there seemed to go back and forth on whether or not Wishes had the assigned seating still.

I knew that the Illuminations one had tables, but I didn't think that it had CHAIRS. That is why I never booked that one. Did you experience it having CHAIRS?

I know you were not asking me but I'll chime in....lluminations Desert party does NOT have chairs. Only tables you stand at and they are not assigned. :)

It's actually $49.99 for adults. It changed early last year to be more expensive and offers more items like sparkling cider, fruits, chocolate covered strawberries, etc besides all the deserts now. It's not really a value but it's definately worth doing for the reserved spot watch wishes from and some great deserts. :)

Last time I was at the dessert party which was 2011 they had the chocolate covered strawberries and a few other fruit items, but no sparkling cider.

$49.99 is too much IMHO. The view is not really that good with the extended overhead roof blocking most of the higher fireworks in this viewing location unless you get a spot on the rail which means getting your spot at least 1/2 hour prior to start.

I always feel bad for the ice cream scooper. He would dig as hard as he could and get a couple of small shavings of ice cream. That ice cream must be kept @ -50 degrees because it is like concrete.

I walked by yesterday and didn't see names on tables, but maybe they are assigned but not labeled?
We have a reservation on Friday. I'll be sad if we end up with a crappy table, but I'll let you all know how it goes.

My daughter and I did the wishes dessert party at the Tomorrowland Terrace at the end of February 2016. We did not have an assigned seat. People started to line up an hour prior to the party. We were about 10 people or so back in line. We were able to pick our own seat. They had tea, coffee, hot chocolate, drinking chocolate, sparking cider, lemonade and water for beverages. Lots of desserts and ice cream. It was our first time seeing Wishes so it was worth it to us but I wouldn't do it a second time.

That is what I thought, thanks.:)

Your welcome! And we really enjoyed it but after being in the parks almost 2 weeks at that point and a very long hot day (in October 2015 the weather was much more like August our whole trip which is not usual for the fall when we go) a seat would of been nice. My feet were done! Haha! That was the only downside to the Illuminations desert party. So the seating at Wishes desert party when we did it several years ago was a plus. Next time we do Illuminatins desert party I will do it at the beginning of our trip. Haha! I want to go back just for the Blue Velvet Cupcake exclusive to that party. :)

I don't remember the exact flavor maybe almond/vanilla but it was so moist and delicious probably the best or one of the best cupcakes I have enjoyed on property. Nothing fancy about it but sooo good!! I didn't get a picture but here is one that I found of it.... Look at the top left of the photo that's the cupcake like I said it's not nothing fancy looking but it's so delicious and I think I like it over my fave red velvet. :)

Now that I think about it, there were not chairs. There are some tables that are along the planter wall, if you can snag those, you can sit on the wall while at the table. We had a table along the wall, but facing the wrong way, so we could sit at our table, but had to stand once illuminations started. Some tables were standing only.

Me and my DH did this in 2012 and it was nice. We received a table in front and enjoyed it. That said, since we have done it once we would probably not do it again and if we had our son with us we would have probably skipped it. $150 for a desert party for 3 that lasts 30-40 minutes seems a bit much.

So about a week ago I sent Disney an email about the Wishes dessert party and if there was assigned seats or not, when my husband was home for lunch today a WDW representative called to talk to me about my email. Since I was at work the rep talked to my husband. The Disney rep said that there is no longer assigned seating, and that upon check in your party is led to a table that fits your parties size. So the tables are basically first come first serve. The rep also said that they have gotten a lot of complaints about the change, but didn't know if there were any plans to go back to assigned seating.

I did an online chat with Ellenton yesterday and even she was not aware of the change in the table reservations. She advised me to call Disney Dining to speak with a rep; so, I did.

Per the DD rep, "The setup is the same as always with the same number of tables that can be accommodated on the terrace."

This will be our 4th party and for us it's great to be in a location where you will not be crushed. We have never been rushed off the terrace afterwards. When Wishes is about to start, everyone usually moves over to the rail; however, my experience is that every table is excellent for viewing if you choose to remain seated. If you have children, they are always thrilled when Tink flies directly overhead. It really comes down to the decision of whether you wish to spend the $$ here or elsewhere.

Reports are that with the new set-up the tables are pushed up to the rails, eliminating the ability to stand at the rail for viewing and causing tables further back to have an obstructed view. We have done the party with the old format twice, but will cancel our upcoming reservation if they stick with this change.

i have heard this from several people, i am scheduled for this wednesday, debated cancelling but decided to go with it anyway and see what the truth is.
I will try to remember to let you guys know what i find, if I don't remember, PM me and I will come back here and let everyone know.
this is a terrible change in my opinion if true, why would they do this? was assigning tables that labor intensive they needed to cut that cost too? just doesn't make sense

You do not need to wait in line for "a good seat". Your table is reserved with your name.

Unless they have changed this in the last few months, The tables are not reserved in your name until you arrive. At the time of check in, they take your name card, place it on your table. There is no reservations made for specific tables.

Report from yesterday, Friday, April 8th:
We arrived at 9 and checked in. We each got a wrist band and walked down the ramp. The CM there asked how many and led us to our choice of 3 tables that would fit the 3 of us. None were on the railing. We chose the furthest to the left. There were several groups with one member camped out at a railing table while the rest of the party came later. I don't know if they initially all checked in and then some left, or if just one person checked in to save the table. The food was fine, and there was plenty of everything. The drinks were pretty meh. The hot chocolate was good. The coffee was nothing special, but I was disappointed in the choice of 2% milk or coffee mate. How hard would it be to have some real cream available?
The view was ok. It was really nice not bring crowded and being able to sit. The fireworks are pretty far to the right, so if you end up seated way under the cover you won't be able to see at all. Several parties stood up and moved when they couldn't see from their tables.
In summary:
-no assigned tables
-ok food
-meh drinks
-nice space, but possibly quite obstructed view

Ok. Here's the real story. As some above who have recently been there said, the tables are first come first serve. No reserved tables. We arrived before nine and waited probably ten minutes in line to check in. I asked about reserved tables and was told that they are not. He stated that people seem much happier since the change. I told him that I am not one of those people. I am definitely not happier I don't want to have to compete again for a good seat. I did that all day long
We were walked down the ramp and shown to a table all the way in the back under the roof that had a terrible view of the fireworks, even though there were several closer to the front that would have fit our group of six. When he left so did we! And went to a table closer to the front. The view here was fine.
Indeed all the tables are now squished together up at the front half of the restaurant and about half will have obstructed views. There is no standing possible because the tables are directly up against the railing
And as reported above we watched several tables up front being held by one person for almost an hour until the remainder of their party arrived
And while some people may be happier about the change the two families that we watched demand their money back because they werent going to pay for obstructed views clearly weren't. They both left. I am assuming Disney is telling their CMs to say people like it but not from what I witnessed tonight
We won't return
