Apparently some people hate Dole Whips. Not really sure if they're human people, but they've learned to type and are here on these boards nonetheless.

Seems like a pretty heated topic, so let's put it to a vote!

Years ago, I knew a small family run donut shop. They sold a variety of donut flavors, including multiple varieties that were creme filled. (Creme donut filling tastes a bit like Twinkie filling, only less sweet/more fluffy. ) Think half creme filling with half strawberry jam, or raspberry, or lemon. Every time the owner tried a new combo, they had to make a new sign. The signs were little plastic labels that fit in front of each case of donuts.

Over time they had made up a number of these little signs, for all the 'seasonal' combos the owner had tried, but nobody had kept track. The signs were flavors like : Strawberry kreme, raspberry kream, chocolate creme, lemon creem, and blueberry kreem. They had every possible spelling of creme, except "cream!"

Turns out, that's because by law they couldn't use the cream if it doesn't contain real cream. Once learned, I can't unlearn that.

So "whip" is just another way of saying- "not actual cream." A few bites of Dole Whip is okay, but a whole one (as WDW serves them) is way too much sugar. Also, two bites in, I can always taste the lack of real cream. I am probably spoiled because I grew up with high quality, real ice cream. Once you had the real thing the fake stuff just tastes icky. Not as nasty as fake maple syrup (shudder!), but icky.

[Now fake maple syrup IS an abomination!]

No one ever said or claimed it was real ice cream…it’s vegan

A local park started serving the stuff (granted of the flavors I saw I don't think pineapple was ever an option) and that took a lot of the mysticism out for me.

They're fine. Can't say I ever find myself really craving them.

I don't think the kreme donuts were dairy-free, just not actual "cream." I think they had processed milk ingredients. That was a long time ago, but I recall it had a lot of chemicals! Donut filling comes in big buckets.

Are Dole Whips dairy-free enough that they don't bother you?

I'm not a big fan, so for me not sure if it would make sick as I haven't had one in awhile, but I will probably get my son one this trip.

I've never tried a Dole Whip. That probably also makes me an inhuman person, 😁 but my question would be... assuming it's the best thing ever, if you could go back and not try it and not know what you're missing, would you prefer not craving it ever, or enjoy it occasionally but long for it all the other moments of the day? I feel that way about Nutella. I wish I'd never tried it so I wouldn't know I'm missing out on the greatest invention since the wheel. Btw, peanut butter and Nutella sammiches are the most sinful dessert ever.

Huh, Guar gum is also used as a laxative.
Sorry, not making this up. I was just curious about those two ingredients.

Years ago, I read about confectioner's glaze, the stuff they use to make candy shiny. (Also called food grade shellac.)

When I first joined the forums oh so many years ago. So many people gushed over Dole whips. It seemed like it was everyones must have treat. So I had to get one on our next trip of course. Maybe my expectations were off because of the crazy hype. It was just about the most Meh thing I've had at Disney. It wasn't bad, it was just average.
