 this may be a silly question but is the wdw christmas day parade really on christmas day? we recently watched the tape of last year's parade and the park looks kind of empty and i know it's supposed to be the busiest day of the year...so do they only let special people in or is it filmed like in november or something? just wondering because i haven't heard much about it and i'm going to be there for christmas so i want to go!

thanks in advance for your responses!

Christmas parade

The parade is filmed earlier in December. It's not a special event, whoever just happens to be in the park that day can watch it. I worked on Main Street in 2001, and that year, Christmas day had really yucky weather, cold, and all gray and rainy outside. My guess is that it's filmed in advance in order to have nice weather so that the parade looks good, cause Christmas '01 would've looked really bad on television.

It was pretty fun to be back in our break room off of Main Street and be all bundled up in coats and other winter gear, and then watch the parade "live" on tv with them talking about what a gorgeous sunny day it was.

Sorry, but they tape it in advance (generally the first week in December). If you'd like to see it live and maybe get on TV, you could schedule your next trip to be there for it. It's a great time to go.

Have a wonderful trip!

Definitely taped!!! I know as it was being taped on the weekend of Dec 5-7th when I was in Disney!!! I decided not to get up at the crack of dawn and get over there as I am not much of a morning person. Plus all of the special appearances ( Clay Aiken etc.) have to be pre recorded also and spliced in!!! The new Christmas Parade though is lovely!!! Check it out!! Belle

If I remember correctly, when they first started televising the parade, it used to be live on Christmas morning. I always remember living up north at the time and them flashing the current Orlando temperature on the screen from time to time to make us jealous!!

One year tho, I do believe that had bad weather and either the next year or the year after, they went to taping it to make sure they had perfect Chamber of Commerce weather. This also allowed them to show more than just the parade as well (all the musical acts from Epcot and MGM or the hotels).

They probably tape it in advance so the people who host it can be at home with their families during Christmas time. However, it seems like they used to do it on Christmas day. Can anyone confirm this. I mean I could have sworn I have seen it say live at the top right of the screen one year at least.

I don't know why either. Maybe Triumph owns the rights to the word P O O P now. I used the word S E X on one of the other boards and it blanked it out too.

yep... it's taped

It was taped on Sat. Dec. 7... did not anticipate it... when we got to MK... it was a complete madhouse... ropes and barricades everywhere, which really made navigating around the park a nightmare. They really decorated Main Street and the central hub beautifully, though.

It was Taped Dec 6th and 7th 2003, I was there all day sat and left around 5 that afternoon when the whole parade was sent thru.

We saw the boy who played the voice of Koda from brother Bear around 9am along with the Fab5 popgroup, later that evening around 2pm we saw the kids from the Haunted Mansion Movie and the cast from abc tv's Less then Perfect , we also saw Bear in the Big Blue House perform with small children a christmas song.

Regis and Kelly did their taping of the parade on Sunday morning due to kelly getting stuck in New York cause of the snow.Regis had arrived friday evening.

I can't say for sure, but I thought part of it is in fact live. I can remember going to MK on Christmas day a few years ago and seeing them taping there.

I do know that a majority (and from what others have said, possibly all) of the parade is filmed beforehand for weather reasons (so if its raining the parade on TV still can happen). The reason I think this is that one year when I was down there (not too long ago, can't remember the exact year), the parade was in sunny weather on TV, but it was raining pretty hard just outside our hotel window. However, parts of the parade, such as the announcers/narrators, were filmed with what looked to be some bad weather in the background like what was really happening so I thought maybe that part was live.

Also, I can remember watching the parade on TV and seeing the attire people had on change from shorts and shirts for one float passing by and then people in winter coats as another float passes by. I imagine it is filmed over several days, including part on Christmas day, but on TV it looks like its all happening that day. :)

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade was filmed December 5-7 this year. They no longer say that it is live when it is aired. On Friday the 5th this year it was warm, cloudy and misty. On Saturday the 6th it was cold, clear and sunny. I'm not sure how they're going to edit the segments filmed on Friday into the segments filmed on Saturday without it looking a bit out of place. Also, it there is no filming that takes place on Christmas day. The normal parade is run that day at it's normal scheduled time and without all of the extra stuff that they add for the filming. :animwink:

I was there a few years ago, the last time the parade was filmed live. One reason for the early filming is because there's no guarantee that the weather will be good on Christmas Day. Last year the weather was rainy and gross on Christmas, but the t.v. showed the parade in beautiful weather! Plus it gives plenty of time to edit the footage.

I'll post pics of Enrique Iglesias filming from Saturday..... if I can get my other computer working.:hammer:

Clay performed in what I think was the opening and Grand Finale of the Parade with the characters and dancers. He sang snippits of "Santa Clause is Coming To Town" and "Joy to the World." Did a fine job. I also saw him in the Regis booth talking to the camera. Don't know what that was about.

We were there for the Friday taping this year. We were taped, and I hope we make the cut! We actually got there after they lined everyone up on the street, and were going to go ride rides, but then decided, hey, lets see if we can get on TV. We walked right up to Main Street and were front and center. It was fun, festive, and just really exciting.:xmas:

Is the Xmas parade on TV like MVMCP's Parade? I saw it on the travel channel special and it even had Brer Rabbit in it, so I would want to see more of it.
Edit: saw the answer up a little on the thread.
